I found The Person and Work of the Holy Spirit to be a diamond in the rough. I was looking for a better understanding of the Holy Spirit and found a treasure trove of information.

Comprehensive but easy to understand
R. A. Torrey is an excellent writer who is able to take many variables about a complex topic and put it into language and order that makes things very clear and easy to understand. This book about the Holy Spirit is a must read for any Christian who feels a deeper knowledge and understanding of Him is necessary if we are to walk in full obedience to God. He is God's voice, speaking in our hearts about what He desires for us and requires OF us to do in this world. Torrey very clearly and convincingly expresses the PERSON of the Holy Spirit and gives ample biblical backing to His personhood. He explains how very important it is to have just as intimate and direct relationship with Him as we do with our Lord, Jesus Christ. He also details the many different ways the Holy Spirit communes with us and equips us with tools to do His work. After reading this book, I understand now just how limiting it is to think that the Holy Spirit is just an impersonal "force" and that it is to be 'claimed and used" for it's power. How blasphemic that sounds now! Reading this book will give you a whole new appreciation and REVERENCE to the fullness of His place in the Trinity.

I had not considered this book since about 1960. Recommended by a recent friend, I ordered and read it with the privilege of experiencing the affirmation and confirmation of the Holy Spirit as I read. As Dr. Torrey proclaims, God the Holy Spirit glorifies and magnifies both the Father and Son when our hearts are responsive to Him, the Holy Spirit. My heart, soul, mind, and body have been enriched with faith, peace, love, joy, holiness, righteousness, grace, truth...for the last two weeks, in answer to my prayer for such grace as I read this book.
