Tell us a little about yourself. I graduated from Florida State University College of Law in 1993 after earning my B.A. in foreign languages from the University of New Mexico. I also served in the New Mexico Army National Guard while working on my undergraduate degree. I started my legal career in the Florida legislature, and then stayed home for a few years to focus on my family. I re-entered the legal world as a trial attorney for the Department of Children and Families, and was later promoted to the DCF General Counsel's Office. I currently work for the Office of the State Courts Administrator at the Florida Supreme Court in the Office of Court Improvement. Here, I focus on dependency (child abuse and foster care issues), domestic violence programs, and judicial training programs. I am passionate about adoption and finding Christian homes for orphaned children. My husband and I were medical foster parents, and have adopted 5 special needs children in addition to our three biological children. In my spare time (ha!) I enjoy photography and writing Christian suspense.
What was your motivation behind this project? I love suspense, and when I visited Hawaii with a friend, I knew it was the perfect setting for a novel. The Island of Maui truly showed me the awesome wonder of God's creation.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? There are two major themes in this book. Alex is a work-a-holic attorney who fails to slow down and truly appreciate the blessings in his life, and Chelsea has been hurt in the past and struggles with trusting in anything or anyone beyond her own abilities. I hope readers can be encouraged and grow in their own relationship with God as they see my characters search for God's will in their lives.
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? I was reminded how important it is to help others around me, regardless of my circumstances. Selflessness is a rare quality these days, but God calls on us to love others around us, even if it isnt convenient. In fact, I believe that it is often during the difficult times that God uses us the most.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: My prayer for you, dear reader, is that you find a way to get involved in helping others. Maybe you can become a foster parent, or even an adoptive parent of a needy child. Maybe you can take meals to those dealing with sickness or loss. The choices are infinite, and with God leading your path, you can quickly become an instrument of love and compassion right in your own community. It may not be convenient. It probably wont be easy, and there will probably be obstacles that appear at every turn. Yet when we help others and truly give of ourselves, we will be rewarded in ways that we never expect.
