Publisher's Description

Your body is an instrument.

No, it’s not a flute, or a guitar (I hope).

It is a sacred and original design by a master craftsman with a specific plan and purpose.

That’s a pretty big deal.

From head to foot, the way you view your body is directly connected to how you serve God. Seriously. From the thoughts you think to the steps you take, every part of you is linked to the divine.

Perhaps you are struggling with your body image or are trying to make sense of why God made you as you are. Maybe you are looking for new ways to understand Scripture or to love God more fully. Either way, this book will take you on a thoughtful, funny, and spirit-filled exploration of the way you were designed and will help you better honor the Creator by learning to value his perfectly unique creation (yourself!).

Author Bio

Annie Downs is an author and speaker based in Nashville, Tennessee. Flawed but funny, she uses her writing to highlight the everyday goodness of a real and present God. By weaving together personal stories, humor, and Scripture, she invites the young women reading to experience fulfilled lives with a God who made them on purpose and loves them deeply. When she’s not writing books or traveling for speaking events, Annie spends her days writing all over the internet—blogging at AnnieBlogs.com and incourage.me, sharing truths about her life in Nashville as a single Christian woman and the stories that are woven into each day. Annie is a huge fan of singer/songwriters, burritos, the Internet, her community of friends, and sports of all kinds.

I'm 34 and really loved this book. It certainly spoke to me and am happy to have my 12 year old and the other young girls I know read this.

You will hardly find me with a non-fiction book. I don't like reading them, I disagree with most of them, and I think fiction is the bee's knees.

But Ms. Downs has changed my opinion. This once. ;)

Ms. Downs brings us a book all about learning to love ourselves and how to praise God with our bodies. My expectations were set. I was ready to disagree. But I was happily disappointed. Instead, I was smiling and laughing at Ms. Down's down-to-earth writing and I was thinking through everything she said. I loved the first two chapters so much I corralled my cousin Tabitha into reading through the book with me!

Through the book, Ms. Downs discusses mind, eyes, ears, mouth, shoulders, heart, hands, stomach, knees, and lastly feet. At the end of every chapter she's formed little "activities" which include Bible verses to read, words to look up in the dictionary, and things to think on. I accepted all her advice at the end of each chapter and preformed some (sadly not all, but I will go back and do them!) of the "activities".

To conclude, Ms. Downs makes you feel like you're her best friend. She shares stories from her personal life, recipes which can be found in the Appendix, and gives solid advice. I highly, highly recommend this book to every teenage girl.

I received this book from Zondervan's Good Teen Reads in return for an honest review. Thanks!

With her slightly corny, offbeat sense of humor, the author draws you in and makes you won't to hear what this silly gal has to say. She addresses the insecurity and self-doubt that every girl faces, then gives practical advice about how to shift your way of thinking and acting in order to reflect the value God places on you.

Each chapter focuses on a different part of the body, explaining the significance of this part. How does it reflect the beauty God put in you? How can you guard that specific part and use it to glorify God? Some are obvious, such as the eyes, the ears, and the heart. But what about the shoulders? The knees? The stomach?

"Chew on This" at the end of each chapter provides scriptures to look up, questions to think through, and thoughts to journal. An appendix with recipes and lists for random things Annie has mentioned within the chapters, such as onion soup, ends a quirky but very real, very relevant book.

I would definitely recommend it for teen girls, although the advice and truths apply to those of us who are a bit older, as well. :) For more details, see my blog review of this book, at www.hammocklibrarian.blogspot.com.
