Product DescriptionJust when mural artist Kate Meadows resolves to embrace singledom and be unbelievably, inconceivably happy, it seems to be raining men. Hallelujah! Or not. First, there's Michael. He's the famous makeup artist determined to bring Kate's looks up to his standard. It's amazing what a few cosmetic procedures can do, but Kate's starting to feel like she's on Extreme Makeover, just without the TV cameras and someone else paying the bill. Then there's the enigmatic Dr. Clive Alexander. Despite his insistence that Kate is perfect just the way she is, he wants to change her in his own way. So, what's a single, thirty-something woman to do? It's a tough call. For as much effort goes into improving her appearance, even more is needed to jumpstart her "on hold" relationship with God.
Product Information
Author BioTamara Leigh began writing romance novels to get the stories out of her head. Over the course of one providential year, she gave birth to her first child, committed her life to Christ, gave up a career in speech pathology, and released her first novel. Her first seven novels earned awards and became national bestsellers, but Tamara was dissatisfied that the stories were not God-honoring. In 2003, she determined to write books that more directly represented her faith. Tamara and her husband, David, live with their two young sons in Tennessee.
ChristianBookPreviews.comPerfecting Kate by Tamara Leigh follows the before and after transformation of Katherine Mae Meadows, successful artist and not-so-successful fashion queen. Shaken by Premature Ovarian Failure, which costs her a fiancé unwilling to wed without the promise of biological children, Kate has slackened in her efforts to appear feminine. When she bumps into and begins dating famous makeup artist Michael Palmer, Kate struggles to balance efforts at physical self-improvement with her growing relationship with God. Add Dr. Clive Alexander, separated from God by grief but to whom Kate is deeply attracted, and her world takes a colorful turn!
Written in first person, Perfecting Kate pulls the reader into its heroines heart and world. Kates internal conversations and journal entries offer a glimpse into a three-dimensional woman facing real issues. Kates struggles with weight, heartache, and a tenuous self-image are issues identifiable with most women. Yet, Kates buoyant sense of humor keeps the novel moving at a quick, enjoyable pace. Vying for Kates heart, Michael and Clive also come across to the readers as real men. Clives grief is deeply felt without his separation from God being over-dramatized. Michaels constant offering of business cards to Kateranging from hair stylists to mole removal expertsreveals him as well-meaning, if insensitive. The relationships between characters are ones the reader will find equally charming. The novels Christian message is delivered with unusual skill. Without seeming heavy-handed, Leigh allows readers to glean useful truths for themselves. Themes such as prioritizing God, speaking with honesty, focusing on internal beauty, and guarding ones tongue, are among many with which the reader can empathize. Though a few descriptive phrases are overused, and the occasional expression may seem clichéd, Leighs writing is clever, stylistic, and beautiful. The novels narrative drive is lively and enjoyable, drawing smiles and tears alike. By the storys end, the reader is left satisfied and wishing to continue the acquaintance. Perfecting Kate imparts beautiful and genuine insights into the heart of the modern Christian woman. Though most women have not directly experienced Kates story, the reflection of a woman struggling to follow Christ and find life and love is one many have known. Tamara Leighs latest novel is an excellent choice for any woman seeking hope and a happy ending. Lauren M.
