Every time I open one of Sarah Sundins World War II romances, I know Im in for a treat. In Perfect Time is the third in a series, but Sundin is an expert at making each story stand alone. It astonished me how she overlapped the stories slightly, so you can actually recognize scenes from previous books and realize youre now viewing them through another persons eyes and experiences.

Sarah Sundin is a master of research, weaving historical facts and technical detail into the stories in a way that lifts the characters and plots rather than bogging them down. I dont want to give away too much of the storyline of In Perfect Time, but I appreciated how she worked the hair-raising adventure of a group of real life flight nurses into this book. And there is a sweet, sweet moment at the end that actually made me choke up. Im NOT the kind of person who typically cries at books and movies, so this was quite a feat.

In Perfect Time completes the stories of the nurses of the 802nd WW2 flight nurses by concentrating on the life of Lt. Kay Jobson. Throughout the war, Kay has gained a reputation as the girl who dances the night away, who dates 6 men at one timea good time girl. As we see the story from her viewpoint, we realize that the real Kay is masquerading as a good time girl to hide her painful childhood. She forms an unlikely friendship with Coop, C-47 pilot Lt. Roger Cooper, the one man who seems immune to her charms, and he gifts her with his Bible and the story of his salvation. As she struggles to read through the book of Job, which her shady camp-preacher father had always quoted at her, she realizes that shes been lied to about what the Bible says. She awakens to the possibility that she is not beyond redemption, and finally shares her confusion with the other girls who help her to understand Gods gift of salvation.

Kay and Coop both struggle with the concept that because of mistakes made in the past, they dont deserve the gift of love. Neither of them knows how to have a male/female relationship without flirting or making the mistakes theyve made in the past. A forced landing behind enemy lines forces them into each others company. As each of them individually grows through their experiences, they both come to realize that Gods love and His gifts are free and offered without reserve. And they both realize that long-held dreams can change into something new and better.

I really enjoyed In Perfect Time as I did the entire series. Kay and Coop both were damaged by thoughtless parents, and it was great to see them each mature as they let the past go and trusted God. I also appreciated the way the characters of the previous books were brought into the story. All the loose ends were neatly tied up, as one would expect at the end of a series book. After the excitement and ordeals of In Perfect Time, it was comforting to realize that the war was nearing its end as the stories were finalized! I will definitely be keeping Sarah Sundins name on my list of authors to watch for.

In Perfect Time is the third and final book in the Wings of the Nightingale series. What an incredible read it is! This series follows a group of female flight nurses in World War II. I love how each book builds on the last. (You don't have to read them in order, but I would definitely recommend that you do!) By the time I got to the end of this book, I felt like the characters were friends, and I was so sad to turn the last page.

There are three things that really have hooked me on Sarah Sundin's books. First, she gives readers characters that are interesting, realistic, and emotional. Even though her stories are set during WWII, I feel like I can relate to the people. Second, she makes history come to life. For whatever reason, there aren't a ton of books set during WWII. It's a fascinating period in history, and I love reading about it. Sundin brings interesting and sometimes obscure facts and features them in her books. I've totally enjoyed reading about female flight nurses during this series! Plus, I felt like I was in the midst of the action throughout this book in particular. Finally (and most importantly to me), faith is always a central theme throughout her books. She definitely doesn't do "cheesy" but God is a primary focus of the characters. I appreciate how she handles this and weaves it throughout fairly effortlessly.

I'm in a phase right now where I'm not as interested in historical fiction as I've been in the past. BUT I knew I had to read In Perfect Time. I mean, it's the final book in the series after all! Sundin wrapped up the series beautifully and gave Kay and Roger a beautiful story. I highly recommend this series and look forward to reading whatever she gives us next! [5 stars]

Have you had the experience of reading a series of books, thinking the first was really good, the second even better, and then the third just going really over the top great? Well, that's exactly what I found with Sarah Sundin's Wings of the Nightingale series!

I just finished In Perfect Time and almost hated to see the series end. The nurses, pilots, and other characters from this World War II setting became my close friends, and I feel like I have experienced almost every emotion possible with them. These stories bring to life some of the joys and horrors their real-life counterparts experienced. The theme of God's willingness to accept and redeem everyone, no matter the past, shines throughout this book. And the romance is beautifully handled at a level that is both compelling and tasteful.

Sarah Sundin's extensive research into World War II certainly pays off in the quality of fiction she writes. She mixes in actual people and events with her fictional characters for a realistic portrayal of life in the thick of the fight.

I suppose you could enjoy In Perfect Time as a stand-alone story, but it will definitely be more meaningful if you first read With Every Letter and On Distant Shores.
