The church that lacks power first lacks obedience.
Speaking of apathy toward obedience, A. W. Tozer says, "Until this is corrected, we can hope for very little power in our churches…"
Obedience is what no revival, no reformation, and no Spirit-filled person has ever been without.
It separates true faith from dead faith.
It bears fruit and is followed by power.
It is costly, but we cannot afford to withhold it.
Paths to Power points Christians and churches to the age-old way of obedience, the only road to revival. Delivering a charge to weak churches, A. W. Tozer calls us to rise up, gather the wood, and ascend the mountain. Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness. But His belief cost him something. Does ours?
"I will read anything from Tozer...anything. This one did not disappoint as he does a great job of highlighting how beautiful that Jesus would die for us sinners. Our lives begin to change the moment we embrace this event that took place on the Cross. We cannot question the love of God without looking at the Cross. We have to allow ourselves the space to chew on what Jesus did for us and what He went through for us to set us free from the curse of sin. Tozer goes right to the heart of this and brings to life the beauty of the love of Jesus. A great book!"

"Failure to distinguish the part of God from the part of man in salvation has prevented the countless seekers from finding peace, and left whole sections of the Church of Christ powerless...
This short text paves the way for the Church to walk in the power of the Spirit. What hinders and what flames that power is crucial to faith. It is easy to confuse our part and responsibility of salvation and what is God's. Why repentance is a powerful tool that it leads us to assurance and to action. It prevents confusion and doubt. Without repentance, we do not see our need for salvation and the gift of the gospel. We lose the power of the gospel when we do not deal with sin. We lose power of the gospel when we see ourselves as victims. We lose the power of the gospel when we feel sorry for our lot in life. The power of the Gospel comes when we become responsible for our sin and trust Christ work on the cross.
Some of the quotes that are encouraging and offer confidence in our salvation.
If atonement was made for all men, why are not all saved? The answer is that before redemption becomes effective toward the individual man there is an act which that man must do. That act is not one of merit, but of condition. And it is an act of eternal importance.
The Bible recognizes no faith that does not lead to obedience, nor does it recognize any obedience that does not spring from faith. The two are opposite sides of the same coin. Were we to split a coin edgewise we would destroy both sides and render the whole thing valueless. So faith and obedience are forever joined and each one is with value when separated from the other. The trouble with many of us today is that we are trying to believe without intending to obey.
Tozer is always to the point and does not sugar coat a god that is easily manipulated but a God that is concerned about our the well being of our soul so that we may know Him.
A Special Thank You to Moody Publishing and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review."

TozerApril 30, 2016TDarrisUnited StatesAge: 25-34Gender: FemaleQuality: 0Value: 0Meets Expectations: 0Ive received A.W. Tozers Paths to Power from Moody Publishers. Although short in length, the stimulating message in this book encourages the Christian to honestly, and thoroughly, examine his, or her, life so that the Christian can truly understand, and live out (or, should I say, obey) the Word of God.
Tozers argument is brief, poignant, insightful, and hard-hitting, but encouraging. And, he presents seven major positions which he has carefully identifies as hindrances to the modern Churchs ability to function effectively as the First Church did. These are:
The modern Churchs general lack of understanding, focus and commitment to its God-given mission, purpose, and work in the earth.
Mans failure to identify and carry-out his earthly duties, versus Gods duties.
To carry out the instructions for godly living which God carefully provided in the Holy Bible.
The lack of productivity in the modern Church, and resulting inability to demonstrate the fruits of Gods Word.
The easily observable phenomenon that the lifestyles of many modern Christians looks more similar to that of their non-Christian counterparts than those of the early Church.
The lack of outpourings of the Holy Spirit into the lives of the modern Christian Church, and some of the unscriptural teachings and beliefs concerning it which are held by many modern Christians.
The lack of unity which is very evident and widespread in the modern Church.
Although this book was first published in the 1940s, its description of a modern Church which (1) fails to demonstrate the power of God, and (2) to take full responsibility for its own sinful actions, (3) confuses the Bibles teachings on such foundational teachings as atonement, redemption, salvation, justification and grace, in order to justify a life which exhibits questionable morals, (4) and over-emphasizes the grace of God, (5) the lack of spiritual unity which is still widespread throughout the modern Church, and a plethora of other serious matters which ultimately result in the generally, powerless modern Christianity which we can easily see, today one that is in great contrast to the Christianity of the First Church.
Paths to Power is the first book by A.W. Tozer that Ive read, and now, I expect to include his works in my home library because his approach to teaching biblical concepts seems to be simple, straightforward, and heartfelt. His passion for the Christian to truly know God is evident from the beginning to the end of this book. Moreover, his usage of plain and clear language makes this book usable and enjoyable for the serious student of the Bible, and for the person who is simply curious to know more about the Christian life.
I highly recommend this book to every member of every church, and to every Christian especially to those who are members of, or are influenced by Western Christianity, because, with this book, Tozer is challenging and encouraging every person who considers himself, or herself, to be a Christian to undergo self-evaluation and to compare his, or her, life to the teachings of the Bible, and to make the changes in the areas of that life, as needed.

Q: I had originally asked when "Paths To Power" by A.W. Tozer was published, and got the answer 2002. I should have asked when it was originally published, not necessarily in this current form. I know A.W. Tozer died in 1963, so any of his work was written before that date, but may have been published after that.
"Paths to Power" was originally published in 1964-the year after Tozer's death.
Q: When was this book published. I have a copy, but it doesn't give a publishing date.
This book was published on 8/1/2002.
