Refusing to settle for anything less than a romantic relationship that pleases God, Faith O'Connor steels her heart against her desire for the roguish Collin McGuire. But when Collin tries to win her sister Charity's hand, Faith is not sure she can handle the jealousy she feels. To further complicate matters, Faith finds herself the object of Collin's affections, even as he is courting her sister. The Great War is raging overseas, and a smaller war is brewing in the O'Connor household.

Julie Lessman’s A Passion Most Pure is an interesting read. Set in Boston and Ireland during World War I, it chronicles the love triangle between Collin McGuire and two sisters, Faith and Charity O’Connor. Faith, desirous of pleasing God in her passions and future marriage, tries hard to resist her desire for Collin, while her beautiful, jealous younger sister Charity tries her best to capture him for herself.

As the title implies, a major theme of the book is how to handle sexual desires in a godly way. While I think Lessman could have toned down the frequency of this subject and still covered it effectively, I also feel that her conclusions were accurate. She tried to drive home the idea that we should give all our desires to God and strive for purity, both physical and emotional, and that substituting cheap, physical “love” for a deep, genuine, God-centered love will never satisfy, and is harmful.

The characters in the story are pretty realistic. I could easily visualize Charity jealously attacking Faith, both verbally and by flirting with Faith’s beau. I totally empathized when Faith tried so hard to bite her tongue and failed. Also, I loved Mrs. Gerson, the blind, elderly neighbor, who is a spiritual mentor for Faith. She gives such a great example of how Christians should live, regardless of circumstances. Finally, Maisie, Faith’s coworker, does a good job of bringing humor to the story.

Overall, I would say that A Passion Most Pure is a good book. It kept my interest the whole time, and I enjoyed reading about a heroine that was so focused on prayer and pleasing God. I’m looking forward to book two. Melissa Hellen, www.ChristianBookPreviews.com

First of the Daughters of Boston series (and the overall O'Connor family saga) Julie Lessman's A Passion Most Pure ranks as one of

the best Christian Fiction books ever written ! Beginning in 1916 (before America entered WWI) A Passion Most Pure concentrates on Faith

O'Connor and her love for Collin McGuire a charming rogue she's known and loved since the 5th grade. Complicating this situation, though is

the fact that the heroic boy she knew in school has become a well known womanizer, does not share her faith in God , and to top it off is

secretly romancing her sister Charity (Which further hurts an already strained sister relationship) . Then just when you think things couldn't get

more complicated Collin finds himself falling in love with Faith. Many questions arise from these situations: Will Collin find God? , Will

Faith and Charity mend their sister relationship? .and will Faith and Collin get together? With the heart and artistry that Julie Lessman puts

in her writing you fall in love with the story so quickly that you can't wait to find out the answers.

This is one of the many reasons this book(along with the rest of the series) is one of the best Christian Fiction books ever

written. It would be hard to list all of the reasons in this one review, but some of them are : Not only is it about the romance between

Faith and Collin, but a wonderful introduction to the O'Connor family which is a real three dimensional family full of love, laughter, tears, and

arguments. It does a wonderful job of giving the reader an idea of what the WWI era was like ( a rarity since this era isn't written about very

often,) The story has a quick pace and a sense of adventure that takes you to different places and introduces different characters along the way without

leaving you confused. Another reason that also stands out is that this story breaks away from standard cliches. Faith isn't a prim, prudish girl

just preaching at Collin,She has deep faith for God and a passion that is saved for who she feels will be the man she will marry. While Collin

isn't just a handsome guy out to seduce Faith. He's a guy with feelings, deep hurts, and buried deep a sense of morality making it quite possible

for him to change. Summing it up this is an excellent book about love: love of God,of family, and romantic love by one of the best authors of

Christian Romance. Julie Lessman has given us a story of romance and inspiration that should be on everyone's must read list along with

the rest of this perfect series!

Before reading this book I read some of the reviews so I approached it with caution but I did not feel that it stepped over the line of being inappropriate as Christian reading material. I think there is much to be learned from this book. This was a wonderful Christian family with a solid foundation but as all families in real life they faced struggles and made some poor choices. The book held my interest from beginning to end. The indecisiveness of several of the characters was a bit excessive but nevertheless made a good story. There was only one incident that I thought was a bit over the top and I wouldn't have included it but I don't want to spoil the story! Enjoy!

After discovering these great books by Julie Lessman, I became a great fan of hers. I especially like the passionate and tasteful way she writes about romance in her books, but I am drawn to them even more because of the passionate way she loves God which is evident in each of her books. In this first book of the series the character, Faith, is a strong woman of God and it shows in the decisions she makes in regard to romance. It is a beautiful story of love and forgiveness. I recommend reading these books in order for a better flow of the story line.

I read a lot of book and this is the first by Julie Lessman. All I can say is that it is absolutely PERFECT!! There is absolutely no dull moments. I simply could not put the book down. I've never read a book that made me happy, furious and made me cry all in one! I can't wait to read other books from this author.

I did not enjoy this book, there was too much lust to be truly Christian. Rather cringing I thought!
