Tell us a little about yourself.  I am a "semi-retired" mental health counselor. I have "always" been writing. At this point in my life I am excited to share some of that writing with others who might find help and hope for their life situations through some of the things I can share with them from my life and work experiences. My husband is a retired junior high math teacher and coach. We raised four children, all married with families of their own. We have seventeen grandchildren from the ages of "under one year" to almost 26. They keep us busy! We do a little traveling and I hope to develop a website to keep in touch and share hope with those who communicate with me through this avenue.

What was your motivation behind this project?  We were in the middle of a trying time with our own teenage rebel. I needed diversion. With family agreement, I decided to go back to school, finish my B.A. in Psychology (Seattle Pacific University) and then complete a Master's Degree in family studies with a counseling emphasis. I was able to choose the project for my Master's program. I chose to write a book about adolescence, for parents who needed help understanding what was going on in their teenager's world, and who needed to know there were things they could do to help get their child back on track. I was learning as I was writing, and what I share in the book helped me find hope for our family and brought our son back to us.

What do you hope folks will gain from this project?  I want parents to know there is hope for regaining a relationship with their errant child. I want them to take responsibility for what they can realistically do to influence this child. I want them to let go of guilt and blame, gain motivation and strength to do whatever they can and renew their personal relationship with God, trusting Him to do what they cannot.

How were you personally impacted by working on this project?  Our son was slipping away from us for six long years. Working on this book provided me with insights, challenges, and motivation to do better with my son than I might have otherwise. The last two chapters of my book, "Have We Done Anything Right," and "Keeping It Together When It Gets Bad," still bring tears every time I read them. They are tears of remembering how hard it was, and tears of rejoicing at how God brought all things together and healed our family. We were all changed in good ways through the processes involved in writing the original book many years ago, and I hope and pray, that other families will find this book changes them, as well.

Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists?  I am influenced and inspired by music. Some of my current favorites are Third Day, Casting Crowns, Tenth Avenue North, Brandon Heath, and many others. I think my all time favorite author is Boede Thoene. She writes about the Jews, Pre-World War II and Hitler, and then the struggles of building a new Jewish Nation. I was mesmerized by her intertwining family stories with the historical realities of those terrible times. She writes other things, as well. I've read most of her dozens of books. I love to read, and I am always finding "new" favorite authors. Inspirational authors for me have been C.S. Lewis, Sam Shoemaker, J.B. Phillips, Andrew Murray, Oswald Chambers, J.I Packer, Keith Miller, Lewis Smedes, and way too many others to list.

Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know:  I am so excited, and so humbled by Bethany House, Andy McGuire, Acquisitions Editor, specifically, taking an interest, and taking a chance on an unknown, first-time author. Everyone has been so encouraging and helpful. I believe God has a plan for this book. I eagerly wait to see how it comes together.
