Psychologist and author Dr. John Rosemond says that, since the 1960s, our culture has exchanged a biblical model of parenting for a psychological one. As a result, many children today are taught to focus on themselves as their parents emphasize accomplishment and success. Previous generations of parents, Rosemond explains, concentrated more on service to others -- rearing children "who, as adults, [would] strengthen the culture through respect for others, ...compassion, and charity." On this broadcast, Rosemond encourages a return to the biblical model by teaching what he calls the three Rs: Respect, Responsibility and Resourcefulness. Listen in and find out why Rosemond says that emphasizing self-esteem is actually detrimental to a child's character.
