A Christmas tale that will tug on your heart strings.

Thomas is a 15 year old young man who has had to grow up fast, since leaving their alcoholic father and starting over, his mother has struggled to keep food on the table for Thomas and his little sister, so she signs them up for the Angel Tree.

Kevin is a well to do middle aged man who owns and operates his own design business. When the bad economy deals him a tough blow, Kevin is determined to cut back, but his wife urges him to pick up an angel from the Angel Tree.

Kevin and Thomas embark on a Christmas journey that neither of them will forget!

The reason I that I picked this book up, was honestly that I'm a country music fan and I've really enjoyed many of Jimmy Wayne's songs, especially Paper Angels, the song after which this book is titled. I've heard Jimmy Wayne's touching story about how he received an Angel Tree gift when he was younger, and how it changed his life. It's so wonderful to know that the author really knows what he is talking about, and that he is truly writing from the heart.

I really liked the characters, Thomas was such a responsible and selfless young man, and the hard times had made him a man before his time. And I thought that all the characters were written in a heartfelt, and gripping way.

Overall a beautiful Christmas book, that shows how both the giver and the receiver are both blessed through a gift. Definitely a heartfelt read for the Christmas season.

I received this book from the publisher in return for an honest review. Thanks!

    Sweet Christmas Story

I've seen the Angel Tree up in stores my whole life and have even chosen an angel a few times. I loved getting to read this sweet story about a man whose life is changed by choosing an angel and the family who receives the gifts. It gave a neat little "insider's view" made even better by the fact that the author, Jimmy Wayne, was a recipient of the Angel Tree as a child!

Paper Angels a great story about how we can be used by God to make a difference in others' lives and I will definitely be giving this book as a gift this Christmas! [4 stars]

I received a free copy of this book from Howard Books in exchange for my fair and honest review.

Make sure you have a box of tissues handy!

Lynn Brandt decided it was time to leave her husband. The bruises on her face gave the reason. She took fifteen year old Thomas and younger Sara to a new town and a new life. But life was hard and the work she found was not enough to provide more than the essentials. Thomas was having a hard time fitting in at the new school. The bullying and making fun of his well worn clothes really hurt. When it gets close to Christmas, Lynn decides to work through her embarrassment and sign the kids up for Angel Tree presents.

Kevin's wife talks him into taking a paper angel off the tree at the mall. It is hard for him to even think of giving to someone else as his world is falling apart. The design company he started just a few years ago may be coming to an end as his major contract was not renewed. His wife is pregnant with twins and Baby B is not growing like he should. Kevin grudgingly takes the angel. It has the name Thomas on it.

While Thomas and Kevin never meet, their lives are forever changed by the paper angel on the tree. Both struggle to trust God in the midst of changes in their lives. Both come to the realization that giving is by far a greater joy than receiving.

You'll need those tissues at the end of the book when the hope for new life becomes evident. No, there are no great miracles. There is just taking each day as it comes and trusting God for the future.

I think this book could have been a great Christmas novella. It bogs down a bit here and there and could have had a number of pages trimmed. Nonetheless, keep reading. The realistic, yet inspiring ending, is worth it.

I received a copy of this book from Howard Books for the purpose of this review.

Kevin Morrell is a forty-three-year-old husband and father who runs a successful design and marketing firm that's crashed into the suffering economy. Attempting to navigate the chaos of the mall at Christmas, Kevin is humbled when he stumbles across The Salvation Army's Angel Tree program. Later his wife insists that he take a paper angel from the tree.

The name on the ornament is that of Thomas Brandt, a fifteen-year-old still reeling from the implosion of his family - from years of verbal abuse from an alcoholic father to a mother who finally left him behind, only to find herself and her children penniless and struggling. The only thing that has allowed Lynn to survive is her faith. Thomas shares that faith, but he also wonders why God has seemingly abandoned them.

This is the bases for the inspired true story told in a fictional account about a man and a boy one December: a man whose life is changed by a simple expression of kindness, and a boy who takes that expression of kindness and shows the true meaning of Christmas in the novel Paper Angels by Jimmy Wayne and Travis Thrasher. I received this book compliments of Howard Books, a division of Simon and Schuster Publishers for my honest review and found myself receiving the most unexpected gift in return. It's a gift that can't be measured in a dollar amount or even exchanged for something better, because it is priceless. Its the gift that God gave us when He provided His son for the ultimate gift of grace and salvation on a beautiful and blessed night so many years ago.

This story will move you in the most unexpected ways. You can see yourself on both sides of the story. You get to feel the pain and loneliness of Thomas when he arrives at school with only the clothes on his back. Rejected by the basketball team since being a new transfer, he is unofficially "benched" til next year. However when a bully from the team, Vic West, finds Thomas' clothes and lack of food something to tease him about in front of the entire school, the tables will be turned in the most unexpected ways. I would rate this story a perfect 5 out of 5 stars and wish everyone could pick up a copy of this book just in time for Christmas, just to see what a difference it would make in everyone's heart
