Christian leadership is often likened to the peaceful image of a shepherd leading his sheep. But the truth is that sheep tend to wander toward trouble, and shepherds don’t always handle the challenges of their job with grace and ease. The Painful Side of Leadership encourages and equips Christian leaders with biblical insights to better manage painful ministry circumstances, relationships, and choices. Author and seminary president Jeff Iorg writes candidly throughout to those who may feel beaten up by their mistakes, their critics, or having to make unpopular decisions. His insights are framed with chapters about why painful things happen to Christian leaders in the first place and the hope that God always provides when a leader is hurting.
Interview with Jeff Iorg, Author of The Painful Side of Leadership
What motivated or led you to write The Painful Side of Leadership?
For about 20 years, Christian leaders have been talking with me about the challenges they face. This book is based on those conversations. This book is a collection of insights and proven strategies for handling the painful circumstances involved in leading
churches and Christian organizations.
What do you want your readers to learn and/or experience from reading your book?
This book acknowledges the inevitability of the painful side of leadership. I want my readers to understand and accept the reality of leadership pain, while not losing heart in admitting those situations are simply part of the leadership equation. I also want readers to learn specific strategies to manage the most common problems they will
face throughout their leadership career.
What's one thing you would like to tell your readers before they read
The Painful Side of Leadership?
Leading Christians will, on occasion, by painful. Accept that reality and learn sound strategies for moving forward even when it hurts. This book will help keep your focus and manage the most difficult situations in Christian leadership.
