Most students associate American history with History and the Egyptian, Sumerian, Middle Ages and the Renaissance Eras as...other stuff. In her endeavor to destroy the wall that has separated American and world history for so long, Susan Wise Bauer created The Story of the World Series, a narrated, integrated approach to the history of the whole world. Take a captivating tour through The Ancient Times, The Middle Ages, Early Modern Times and The Modern Age with Bauer’s straightforward approach, and experience all of history chronologically!
The Complete Writer series begins with Level 1-4 Writing with Ease workbooks that are designed to be used alongside the same primary Writing with Ease manual; these books were written for elementary-aged students. They're followed by the Writing with Skill books, designed for grades 5-8, which include a student workbook and instructor guide for each level. This series provides students with a strong and comprehensive curriculum that builds from basic language arts skills through a sophisticated understanding of what good writing entails.
The First Language Lessons for the Well-Trained Mind series begins with two complete grammar texts (previously one volume), each of which covers a single year. Dictation, narration, picture study, and other classical techniques are used to develop the student's language ability. Each step-by-step lesson leads parents through the simple oral and written projects that build reading, writing, spelling, storytelling, and comprehension skills. Parents can choose to continue the series with two additional levels (Level 3 & 4) both of which include a separate teacher's edition and student workbook (unlike Levels 1 & 2). These latter levels are a complete writing & grammar curriculum, and use four different strands of teaching to impart grammar, punctuation, usage and writing skills, while students learn through memorization, copywork, dictation, narration and grammatical concepts.

Have you lost the art of reading for pleasure? Are there books you know you should read but haven't because they seem too daunting? In The Well-Educated Mind, Susan Wise Bauer provides a welcome and encouraging antidote to the distractions of our age, electronic and otherwise. In her previous book, The Well-Trained Mind, the author provided a road map of classical education for parents wishing to home-school their children, and that book is now the premier resource for home-schoolers. In this new book, Bauer takes the same elements and techniques and adapts them to the use of adult readers who want both enjoyment and self-improvement from the time they spend reading.
The Well-Educated Mind offers brief, entertaining histories of five literary genre - fiction, autobiography, history, drama, and poetry - accompanied by detailed instructions on how to read each type. The annotated lists at the end of each chapter - ranging from Cervantes to A.S. Byatt, Herodotus to Laurel Thatcher Ulrich - preview recommended reading and encourage readers to make vital connections between ancient traditions and contemporary writing.
The Well-Educated Mind reassures those readers who worry that they read too slowly or with below-average comprehension. If you can understand a daily newspaper, there's no reason you can't read and enjoy Shakespeare's Sonnets or Jane Eyre. But no one should attempt to read the "Great Books" without a guide and a plan. Susan Wise Bauer will show you how to allocate time to your reading on a regular basis; how to master a difficult argument; how to make personal and literary judgments about what you read; how to appreciate the resonant links among texts within a genre - what does Anna Karenina owe to Madame Bovary? - and also between genres. Followed carefully, the advice in The Well-Educated Mind will restore and expand the pleasure of the written word. 432 indexed pages, hardcover with dust jacket.

A lively and engaging narrative history showing the common threads in the cultures that gave birth to our own.
This is the first volume in a bold new series that tells the stories of all peoples, connecting historical events from Europe to the Middle East to the far coast of China, while still giving weight to the characteristics of each country. Susan Wise Bauer provides both sweeping scope and vivid attention to the individual lives that give flesh to abstract assertions about human history.
Dozens of maps provide a clear geography of great events, while timelines give the reader an ongoing sense of the passage of years and cultural interconnection. This narrative history employs the methods of "history from beneath"-literature, epic traditions, private letters and accounts-to connect kings and leaders with the lives of those they ruled. The result is an engrossing tapestry of human behavior from which we may draw conclusions about the direction of world events and the causes behind them.
