Using his own translation, Barnhouse provides a comprehensive exegetical treatment of Paul's letter to the Romans that is renowned for its depth of insight, yet highly accessible to all readers. Though a respected scholar, Barnhouse spent most of his career as a dedicated pastor and was praised widely for his unusual ability to make the biblical message clear and practical.

In Romans Barnhouse uses Paul's famous epistle as a jumping-off point for a detailed exposition of core biblical doctrines. He proceeds phrase-by-phrase through the text and long the way each passage is examined in its immediate context and then related to broader biblical teaching. This allows Barnhouse to faithfully adhere to the Reformation maxim that Scripture interprets Scripture, and that it is perspicuous (clear) in its teaching, infallible, and authoritative Thus, his focus on Romans becomes an exposition on the doctrines of the entire Bible.

Reader's new to Barnhouse with appreciate his distinctive and lucid writing, while those familiar will again be able to hear a faithful and classic presentation of the Bible's message.

Karl Barth's Church Dogmatics is, arguably, the most important theological publication of the 20th Century. Reacting against staunchly entrenched German Idealism, Barth sought to articulate a Christian theology that took seriously and yet overcame the critique of Christianity brought forth by 19th Century Protestant Liberalism. Most believe he succeeded to a great extent, and in doing so re-established an orthodox theology's ability to speak positively and confidently about faith, reason, and God in Jesus Christ.

Since its publication in the United States, the Dogmatics has remained relatively inaccessible to pastors, students, and even many professors due to its cost. That is now changing. Hendrickson Publishers, with its publication of the 14-volume set of the Church Dogmatics, has overcome this obstacle by providing an economic, hardback edition.

Young's classic 3-volume commentary engages in a line-by-line exegesis of the Book of Isaiah, setting interpretation firmly in the context of Isaiah's archaeological, cultural, and intellectual background. Young's conclusions are theologically conservative, and though he believes Isaiah to be a unified, single-author book, he respectfully interacts with opposing views. Includes bibliographies and indexes. Volume 1 covers chapters 1-18; Volume 2 looks at chapters 19-39; Volume 3 surveys chapters 40-66.

In Union with Christ: Reframing Theology and Ministry for the Church noted and dynamic theologian J. Todd Billings recovers the biblical theme of union with Christ for today's church, making a fresh contribution to the theological discussion with important applications for theology and ministry.

Drawing on Scripture and the thought of figures such as Augustine, Calvin, Bavinck, and Barth, Billings shows how a theology of union with Christ can change the way believers approach worship, justice, mission, and the Christian life. He explains how this union can transform the tone of theological conversation about thorny topics such as total depravity and the mystery of God, while also providing a critique and alternative to the widely accepted paradigm of incarnational ministry and explores a gospel-centered approach to social justice. Combined, these elements continually point to the life giving relationship that exists in union with Christ and how it can affect our communal lives.

One of the problems of living in a non-discerning culture is the fact that everything gets put on the same level. Christian books share the same 'Religion' shelf with anti-Christian and cultic material. Such is the situation where books like Bart Ehrman's Misquoting Jesus can gain a foothold and credence with readers. Published by a popular secular publishing house, Ehrman gets no true peer review for his writings.
Strangely enough, Timothy Paul Jones' welcomes this, and his book, although a thorough and deep refutation of Ehrman's faulty logic and conclusions, rather takes the tack of lauding Ehrman for creating something that encourages ordinary people to think about faith in critical ways. Jones seeks to give individuals the rest of the story Ehrman started to tell.
Adequately countering the criticisms Ehrman levels at Christianity in his books, Misquoting Truth goes back to the faulty premises, dismantles them and rebuilds them with fact rather than speculation, then supports the historical faith with humor, warmth and solid analytical investigation.

Roger Olson provides us with a concise, lively and readable history of evangelical theology.

Finding its antecedents in early Pietism of the late seventeenth century, Olson traces its development through the revivalism in Great Britain and America in the eighteenth century from its roots within Puritanism, Wesleyanism and the Great Awakening. Olson then takes us forward in time as he considers evangelicalism in its connection with the Old Princeton theology, Holiness-Pentecostalism and fundamentalism, tracing its course to our contemporary context.

Great as a reference book, a refresher course or for use in introductory theology classes.
