Ox Cart Man was the 1980 Caldecott Medal winner was the 1980 Caldecott Medal winner. This simple, rhythmic story traces a year in the life of a New England farm family in the 1800's. He fills his cart with the goods his family has produced throughout the year and takes them to market. After selling everything, including the cart and ox, he buys a few items and walks home. The values of hard work, patience, cooperation, family, and contentment are woven throughout the story.
