Named By God: Overcoming Your Past, Transforming Your Present, Embracing Your Future Unabridged Audiobook on CD
Not quite what I expected....
This book was a little different than I expected. I had thought it was sort of a biography of the author â but instead it was more of a self-help book. Or should I say an âÂÂallow God to help youâ book? Guess I must not have read the book description very carefully! I did expect to hear more in story form about the things that happened to her â and they were stories, but more used as a âÂÂlaunching padâ for whatever point she wanted to make in the chapter.
The book was read by the author and she did a good job. You could hear the emotion in her voice at different points and that was touching.
The book was quite longâ¦so if you are looking for a quick listen pass this one by until later.
Many of the things in this book are basic, but it was interesting to hear them put in a new way. IâÂÂll give you a sample of a few things I gleaned along the way:
On becoming mature â we never arrive at the summit. No matter how long we serve the Lord itâÂÂs a process we all have to continue working on. It is an intentional process. Take a paper and write down your pre-Christ and post Christ behaviors. Has anything changed? If there is very little difference in the way you dress, the places you go, how you speak, the activities you do then you are not maturing in your relationship with the Lord.
Spiritual gifts â God has given us all a spiritual gift. If you are just sitting on the pew on Sunday and thatâÂÂs all there is to your involvement in your local church body, God has more for you! He has given us all a gift to use in His service. Pray and begin to look for what way the Lord has for you to serve.
While I donâÂÂt agree with all the doctrinal positions in this book (such as once you are saved you are always saved and your sins past, present, & future are already forgiven, etc â understand, IâÂÂm basically coming from a Wesleyan Armenian position) I did appreciate the focus of taking your problems to God and letting Him change you.
