Publisher's Description

This is a fresh restatement of the case for the preservation of the saints, especially valuable in light of the insecurity of much of postmodern life. The book captures the dynamic interplay in the Old Testament between the themes of preservation and apostasy and teaches readers how to understand the New Testament teachings of Jesus and his apostles. Understanding that it is God, in his grace, power, and faithfulness who saves and keeps his people for final salvation brings them stability, gratitude, and confidence to live for his glory.

Editorial Reviews

Vintage Peterson! Fresh, crisp, clear, honest, insightful, and edifying, this work is arguably the most helpful resource on the subject written for pastors, teachers, small group leaders, and interested church members.
Our Secure Salvation offers a well-informed and warm pastoral exposition of the biblical teaching regarding preservation, perseverance, assurance, and apostasy. Readers will find strength and encouragement from both the biblical and theological themes so capably explained by Robert Peterson. I am confident that the careful and irenic presentation found in this volume will be helpful for Calvinists and non-Calvinists alike. It is a joy to recommend this book.
This book treats a difficult but crucial topic for the Christian life in a way that is both true to Scripture and pastorally sensitive. Written for a wide audience, not only pastors and teachers but other interested persons will find reading it edifying as well as instructive.

I am impressed with the balance, pastoral care and biblical basis of this very helpful book by my friend and co-author (Two Views of Hell) Robert A. Peterson. Peterson examines 18 New Testament passages that teach God's preservation of his children and their perseverance in faith, followed by 24 New Testament warnings against apostasy.God's preservation is the invisible cause of our perseverance, he points out, and our perseverance is a visible fruit of God's preservation. Peterson admirably rejects the popular error of promising divine preservation apart from human perseverance and also rejects the opposite error of supposing that perseverance depends upon human power and is therefore questionable. The book is filled with useful biblical insights, such as interpreting the dog and pig sayings in 2 Peter 2:22 in light of Jesus' sayings about the same two animals in Matthew 7:6.
