Only God: Change Your Story, Change the World - eBook
Start sharing your Only God story
Only God begged to be read by me. This book is what my blog is all about. Sharing your Only God story with the world so others will see there is hope for them. Our stories are not for us but for others to encounter the glory of God.
Dwight gives practical steps to take so you can write your Only God story. At the end of every chapter are Action Steps. I recommend doing them because they will enable you to really think through your story and maybe even discover something you never knew was buried within you.
Think you don't have an Only God story? You would be wrong. We all do and Dwight addresses that in his book.
I think my favorite chapter was Chapter 9: Helping Your Children Write a Great Story. I loved this as it gave me ideas about how I can point my children in the direction of writing a great Only God story right now.
There is also a chapter on building a team God story, I am thinking of elders in the church, or different ministries. It made me reflect on how am I building up the worship team I lead, am I helping them construct an Only God story?
I am in total agreement with Dwight as he shared his passion in this book because, as you know if you read my blog, I love sharing my Only God story.
I hope you'll grab a copy of this book and start working on your Only God story and then share it!
An egalley of this book was given to me from netgalley.com in exchange for an honest review.

I finished reading Dwight MasonâÂÂs book Only God â Change your Story, Change the World. I happen to know Dwight and have worked with him over the last 15 years. I loved reading about the stories of his early years as a pastor and the many challenges he faced. I remember some of those difficult times and some of the big break throughs along the way in building NewPointe Community Church.
Dwight is both humble and persistent and that came through in this book. The leadership principles he shares are vital to any leader that wants to make a difference in this world.
The book is about how important our story is and how it fits into GodâÂÂs bigger story. We are all writing a story and have some control over how that story reads moving forward.
I particularly liked the way he talked about embracing change and the enemies of change. Life is filled with changes and challenges and how we handle those changes determines much of our story. There is a lot of action steps after each chapter that helps you put into action what you just read.
Every parent should read the chapter on Helping Your Children Write A Great Story. It is packed with practical wisdom on how to raise children in a healthy way.
This is a leadership book and yet it is much more than that. ItâÂÂs a book about life and living it with an eternal perspective. Invest in your future by reading this book.

Must Read! (And Must Do!)
I love this book by author, Dwight Mason. It's a must read for anyone who wants to live a life of vision and purpose! Listed below are my top four reasons why this book is so powerful.
1. Stories. Author, Dwight Mason has incorporated stories from his life in this book that show how he has truly lived the big idea of this book. Everyone connects to a story, and this book is no different. Mason's stories are what speak to the heart of every reader.
2. Fresh. Mason's take on leadership and personal development are fresh and inspiring. Many books repeat the same bottom line over and over, but Mason's book gives fresh takes on life changing principles.
3. Holistic. I appreciate how this book speaks to every area of life; leading at home, marketplace, or leading yourself. Mason approaches each arena of life and shows how you can broaden the vision and lead wherever you are. My personal favorite were his principles for leading a family.
4. Action-packed. By far, my favorite part of this book has to be the action steps Mason has outlined. Too often I find myself reading a leadership or personal development book that inspires me but leaves me without a plan. This book is VERY different as it outlines very detailed instructions on how you can truly change your personal story and live a more fulfilling life. I appreciate the way Mason has broken down a big idea into bite sized chunks anyone is capable of completing.
This book is a GREAT read. But, if you just read the book you'll be doing yourself a disservice. Read, but also DO. Don't let this be a book that you breeze through and put on the shelf. Invest the time to do the action steps, apply them to your life, and see how your story can truly change.

Change Your Story, Change The World.
Dwight Mason is my pastor. He is my friend. He is my boss. He is debatably one of the most honorable and humble men I know and have ever worked with. I've learned more from him in the short time I've been working at NewPointe Community Church than most I have known my whole life.
When you meet Dwight there is something that draws you to him. He's a normal guy. He likes basketball. He loves his family. He loves Jesus. He has a passion and vision for what God has called him to that are intoxicating to all around him. Yet, his vision doesn't get in the way of people. Many I've known who have big goals and big vision end up leaving a trail of dead in the wake of pursuit.
My first few weeks on staff included a number of visits from Dwight as he sat down in my cubicle to ask about my wife and, at that point soon to be born, daughter. He rarely asked me about anything related to my position at the church. He cared more about me and my family. Even now as I'm at a different campus most of the week from Dwight, when he stops in he always says hello and shows a genuine concern for me and those I love. This isn't a facade. He truly cares.
Why do I start with all this when I'm reviewing a book? I begin with this picture of Dwight because it radiates throughout Only God. I'm a beneficiary of Dwight's "only God" story. I get the privilege of seeing him seek after God in prayer and in action. I've sat across from him at the lunch table in a crowded Chipotle and watched him tear up as he talked about our church's vision "To lead people to realize and reach their full potential in Jesus Christ." He loves the God he writes about and lives out everything he challenges his readers to in the book. Only God is written by someone who has lived it out. At the end of every chapter are "action steps" that Dwight has taken. This book is not full of uncharted territory, but is instead a testimony of how a great, good, and generous God can use a surrendered and loyal servant for His glory.
Only God helps the reader to craft an "only God story". A story that involves big vision and a big God! So naturally Only God begins with our understanding of who God is. Dwight often quotes A.W. Tozer "What comes to mind when you think about God is the most important thing about you." When we begin to understand that God is "good, great, and generous", we understand that He must be trustworthy. So as God calls us to bigger vision we don't need to fear because we know we can trust Him.
Speaking to the reader as the author of their story, the rest of the book dives into how we write our stories. There are very practical examples of how to begin literally writing it out as well as how to find the courage to share it. There are "only God" example stories shared as well as leadership model examples and advice on how to get the "right people in the right seat on the right bus".
Dwight is transparent and it's obvious he wants this book to truly change people's story. "Change your story, change the world." Your story isn't about you. It's about a good, great, and generous God who has more planned for you than you could possibly imagine, unless you begin to change your story.
Please know that this review is unbiased, as much as possible. I tried to read this book with fresh eyes. I read a lot and I review books frequently. When asked by my campus pastor what I thought of the book and where it fell on the scale books I've read, I put it in my top 25%. It's excellent. It's challenging, biblical, and practical. It's the beginning to an amazing journey of seeking after God, not settling for a mundane life, but risking it all for the glory of our King.
Get it. Read it. Live it.
Change your story. Change the world.
