I found the author's website and liked her photographs, so bought the book when I found it on sale. It was much more meaningful than I expected. This book is a life-changer. I read it once and am re-reading it again as I put in practice the author's idea of counting 1000 God-given gifts during the year.
I will try to convey all this book has meant to me. My youngest son, Austin, passed away shortly after his 21st birthday and my world fell apart. In trying to find books online to help me, this book popped up so I ordered it with four other books. This was the 4th book I picked up, not finishing any of them except C.S. Lewis, "The Problem of Pain." (That book answered questions I had on why God allows such misery into lives of His children, so helpful.) One Thousand Gifts has taken my heart on a healing journey like nothing I could have dreamed. God has used this book to let the built up pressure of my pain release a little at a time. My loving Father used this book to help me know, in the realest way, that He loves me so much, and He loves my son too. About every 2 pages I would be balling my eyes out and have to stop reading & I so felt God's loving arms around me. Ann Voskamp breaks thru into the innermost sanctuary where healing can take place. She reveals God as He truly is, our very loving, gentle, kind, caring, tender heavenly Father that knows everything about us, everything we'll ever need and He is working all things together for our good. If we will stop fighting Him and let Him, our lives will be so much more fulfilling and peaceful. I've since bought many more copies of this book to give as gifts hoping God will touch my loved ones' lives in the same way. I give this book an 11/10!
Excellent book, detailing the importance of being grateful, and for thanking God in all circumstances. I first read it several years ago when I was going through a very hard time. i purchased 4 of this title this year for friends in similar circumstances. Highly recommended!
