One Night with the King is a major disappointment. Not only does it waste its remarkable cast, but its great locations and beautiful sets, as well. The corny dialogue and incoherent editing are two readily noticeable deficiencies. On top of that, the writers have filled out the factual, biblical account of Esther with extreme fictional liberties that could create harmful confusion in the viewer as to what is true or untrue. This most obviously occurs in the ridiculous and counter-biblical backstory of Haman.
All in all, One Night with the King is another Gener8Xion Entertainment debacle. Theyve wasted talent, money and time on what could have been a stirring biblical epic in more capable hands. Sadly, secular Hollywood could have done better. Todd Burgett
SEAAge: 18-24Gender: Female5 Stars Out Of 5Good watch and will give understanding to biblical contextDecember 14, 2014SEAAge: 18-24Gender: FemaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I'm in my 20's and I really enjoyed this movie and use it quiet often as a background movie to play while I'm doing other things! Obviously, it's a movie so liberties are taken but this movie did help me understand some key biblical truths and contexts that I never fully understood before! For example, Haman being a descendant of King Agag from I Sam. 15 and that was a possible cause of his intense hatred of the Jews. They did a really good job in setting up that context in the beginning and it made me research to see if this really was true! I'm also a history buff so I like that they expounded on Persia and Greece's warring relationship which is also a key part of the story's context.
Also, the acting is great - I mean when you have actors like Omar Sharif (Lawrence of Arabia) and John Noble (LOTR) it's hard to go wrong.
Again, I would highly recommend it. Obviously watch it with a discerning eye knowing it's going to take liberties to expound the 10 chapter story of Esther into a 1 1/2 hour movie, but understand it can help give you a better understanding of the historical and biblical context in which Esther took place.

MelanieWest Central, OHAge: 35-44Gender: female2 Stars Out Of 5If only it would have stayed true to the BibleNovember 16, 2013MelanieWest Central, OHAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 1Meets Expectations: 1After watching this movie, here are my reactions: The characters, settings & wardrobes were excellent. The casting of characters was good - nothing of inappropriate content. This would have been a beautiful movie, if only it were scripturally accurate in ALL areas. This was not the Esther of the Bible who conducted herself with elegance, wisdom & poise. For example: when she enters the throne room uninvited, it is full of people & she is met with hostility & suspition. She is dripping wet after running through a rainstorm to get there. The drowned rat look - UGH! The king holds out his scepter at the last minute only to receive the scorn of his advisors. They tell the king Esther has dishonored him even worse that Vashti. Esther is close to fainting & cannot tell him why she came. This is not the majestic Esther that nobly & with courageous dignity enters the king's presence, with a plan so intricate, it could only have been of God. Movie is going into the trash. My children won't be watching it because it is not TRUTH.

It's one of my favorite movies. All of the actors are excellent and it was well cast. I think the script is excellent. It is very multi-dimensional: romance, biblical, conflict, war, power, betrayal, etc. The scenery and setting was very authentic. I would highly recommend this movie!!
