Publisher's Description

What J. D. needs is a little peace and quiet. He is trying to run two restaurants, keep his daughter from dropping out of college, and satisfy his lonely, aging mother. Cash begins to disappear from one of the restaurants, and he and his wife argue about how to deal with the problem.

One tranquil evening, J. D. takes off on a ride in the country to clear his mind. Top down, setting sun, wind in his hair ... leak in the radiator. When he walks up to an old farmhouse to ask for water, he finds a family living in poverty, and vows to help. When he returns with groceries, he can't find them or the house—although he's not lost. While J. D. struggles to make sense of this mystery, his behavior creates doubt in his marriage, and even his best friend thinks he's crazy. And when he solves it, his life is changed forever.

Author Bio

Don Reid, a member of the Statler Brothers, country music's premier singing group for nearly forty years, has established himself as a singer and professional writer in multiple fields.

As a songwriter of 240 published and recorded songs, many of them number one and top ten hits, Reid is the recipient of 18 BMI (Broadcast Music Incorporated) awards, 3 Grammy awards, 9 Country Music Association awards, 48 Music City News/TNN awards, 13 gold albums, and 8 platinum albums.

Reid also cowrote (with his brother Harold) the television series The Statler Brothers Show and numerous TV specials. He has published three nonfiction books (Heroes and Outlaws of the Bible, Sunday Morning Memories, and You Know It's Christmas When.). O Little Town is his first novel.

Don lives with his wife, Deborah, in Staunton, Virginia.

In Don Reid's One Lane Bridge, the author uses an intriguing concept of a rift in time that only one person can pass through. Reid does an impressive job displaying the tension that the alternate reality causes between the characters. The Scripture passage, "Now I know that you are a man of God and that the word of the LORD from your mouth is the truth," (1 King 17:24) is very applicable in this story.

At first it is hard for the characters to believe there is another world, but soon they realize that truth is being told. Reid may have put a little too much non-plot-related drama into the characters' interactions, but the plot itself was enough to keep me glued to the book. As the story progresses, the author slowly reveals how the characters are connected, how they grow in matters of courage, grace, wisdom, and determination, and how they positively influence one another. It is these relationships that give the book both its value and intensity. Although this is a fantasy, it has real-world challenges related to virtue, belief, and human dignity. It uses dramatic scenes to cause the reader to ask what he would do to protect a friend, stand for a cause, or defend a reputation.

One Lane Bridge is a page turner with strong narrative momentum, grand imaginative writing, and three-dimensional characters. – Claire Hadley,

The story took a little to get into but really enjoyed it as the suspense built. This book is not full of theology but just a pleasant read.

I was surprised CBD would have a book like this in its inventory. There was talk of praying and Bile verses, but the whole story line was what the main characters did for each other, not what God did for them. Very strange book.

This is one of the best, most unusual stories I have read in a long while. I had no idea as to how it would end, but was blessed with the conclusion. You won't be sorry if you read this book.
