Publisher's Description

In one of the most beautiful places on earth, the ugliest of crimes holds young, innocent lives in its evil grip. An intercepted cell-phone call from a remote area on the Olympic Peninsula tells beautiful, brilliant NSA researcher, Jennifer Akihara, that a group of girls will soon be sold into slavery by human traffickers. She enlists her fiancA, Lee Brandt, to help find the holding location and convince the FBI to intervene. With the clock ticking off the last few hours before both the sale of the girls and the arrival of a deadly storm, and with international criminals pursuing them, can Jennifer and Lee save the girls, or will their wedding plans be cancelled ...permanently?

Jennifer Akihara and Lee Brandt are back in On the Pineapple Express, the second book in H. L. Wegleys Pure Genius Series. As the couples romance continues to blossom, the pall of danger hangs over their heads. The pair race against time to save the lives of three young women who have become victims of a human trafficking ring.

The threat of discovery by the kidnappers puts them in constant peril. Their plight intensifies as they find themselves caught up in a pineapple express, a meteorological phenomenon that drives relentless rain and wind into the path of their progress.

The author packs suspense and excitement into his writing while releasing tension with moments of well injected humor. He deals with the evil of human trafficking realistically enough to emphasize the depravity of this crime without graphic description.

Wegleys characters are well-developed and interact realistically with each other. He does a great job of building the plot tension to a crescendo, then tying sub-plots together for a satisfactory ending.

The Christian thread is evident throughout the story as Jennifer struggles with feelings she believes she should have abandoned on her path as a new Christian.

I am excited to move on to Moon Over Maalaea Bay, the third book in The Pure Genius Series,

Lee cannot believe that Jennifer is out to locate a long shut down loggers mill because she is believes that she is hearing a childs cry. On top of that both are at risk for getting killed by a powerful storm on the peninsula if not by those who have kidnapped the girls. The main leader of the ring on the land is Trader who Jennifer discovered through using her latest computer program to pick up cell calls. Both Lee and Jennifer risk their lives and possible future as man and wife to locate the girls before they are taken to a ship off shore and sold into slavery.

Jennifer is caught by Trader and taken to the place the other girls are held as captives, but Trader is wrong about Jennifers age, thinking she is like the others, a young teen. Jennifer prays for God to give her wisdom and strength to help herself, Lee and the three girls escape in order to be returned to their families. Katie, however, is an orphan in the foster system, and throughout their adventures Jennifer realizes how much Katie is just like herself. Not yet married, both Lee and Jennifer agree to take Katie first as a foster daughter with the intent of adopting her after they are married.

Throughout the novel readers can see how Katies search for wholeness and security opens her heart to receiving the good news of Jesus Christ from Jennifers prior experiences. The way the characters pray about the decisions even when in danger with time not on their side, they realize that without the Lord all attempts would be in vain. When Lee is given permission to court Jennifer, her grandfather has one proviso, he wants a grandchildren shortly after they are married!

Danger, staring death in face, attempting to locate the other members of the sex slave operation are just a few of the other ingredients put together to form a very entrancing book! Dont miss the first book in the series, Hide and Seek, which lays the foundation for each of the succeeding novels that are totally heart pounding tales!

This is an exciting and timely suspense novel focusing on human trafficking of girls and young women. The entire book is a roller coaster ride of breath-stopping action.

This is the second of a 4-book series, and although it can stand alone, I imagine that readers might like to read the first book, Hide and Seek, before reading On the Pineapple Express. I hadn't read the first book, which made me feel somewhat removed from the main characters, since the backstory is frequently referenced.

My favorite character is Katie, who is one of the girls who has been captured in the US to be sold internationally. She is intelligent and very courageous.

Since the majority of the book is very intense and moves so quickly in life and death situations, I had a bit of a hard time accepting the romantic behavior (nothing more than kissing and hugging) that the main characters consistently display. It sometimes seems a little out of sync with the current setting. New adults and teens might not see it as being unusual.

This book is not only good fiction, it is very informative. I think it's appropriate for teens, especially, who need to be alerted to the dangers of human trafficking. On the Pineapple Express would be a good book for parents to read and then pass on to their teenagers.

It is obvious by the story that Jennifer and Lee are very committed Christians. Their spiritual life is a big part of the story, because it defines their thinking and actions.

If you like romantic suspense, especially if you are concerned about the burgeoning sex-traffic trade, then you will want to read this book.
