Author Bio

Mark Driscoll is the founding pastor of Mars Hill Church, a multi-site congregation based in Seattle that spans 15 locations in five states. He is the founder of Resurgence (theResurgence.com), co-founder of the Acts 29 Network, and the author of numerous books, including the #1 New York Times best-selling Real Marriage, co-written with his wife Grace. Pastor Mark’s sermons reach millions of listeners online, and in 2010 Preaching magazine named him one of the 25 most influential pastors of the past 25 years. Pastor Mark and his wife have five children.

Mark Driscoll, pastor of Mars Hill Church in Seattle, Washington, has put together a unique series of books. This series is called “A Book You’ll Actually Read.” The intention of this series is obviously in the title. Driscoll’s hope is to put a summary of each of these topics into a readable and digestible form in order for the reader to complete the book in one sitting (an hour?).

I read “On The Old Testament.” I really appreciated Driscoll’s clarity, conciseness and excellence. In the books on the New and Old Testaments he starts out answering 9 “common questions” regarding each Testament. Such questions involve: authorship, trustworthiness, canonicity, etc. Driscoll then covers another section on how to read the various books of the Bible highlighting the different types of literature (history, wisdom, Gospels, Epistles, etc.). Lastly, he concludes both of these books with a very helpful section on “How to Build a Theological Library.” The books he lists in these sections are all solid and worth having in any home or church library.

This series is a great resource for individuals and churches. I highly recommend these books for new believers or young believers (teens, especially). Driscoll really presents these subjects in a very readable and easy to understand format without sacrificing solid biblical content. For those familiar with Driscoll, he also avoids some of the more controversial styles or content that he has been known for in the past. Instead he lets the content of Truth remain the sole area of controversy. These are great books to give away and/or stock in your library…and costing around $10 retail – they are affordable, too. - Pastor Todd Burgett, www.ChristianBookPreviews.com
