I noticed that someone complained that this is not a '"study" Bible but the "study" is part of the name - not a description. The founder of Catholic Scripture Study International compiled and edited this Bible and I think wrote parts of it as well. It is named after her organization, and so the word "study" in the name is part of the name of the organization, not a description of the Bible. It's not just for Bible study participants but for everyone and it's a great help to Catholics because it has an extensive section of Catholic Apologetics where one can show where Catholic doctrines are either explicitly or implicitly in the Bible. It also has many articles explaining other Catholic teachings that are thorough yet concise and a very good, although llimited topical index in the back. It's a beautiful Bible with the Catholic Scripture Study International logo on the front cover in gold. A very well done and useful Bible! It would be a wonderful gift for cconfirmation, for newly weds, a priest, a Christmas gift or for a kid going off to college (where they often unfortunately, lose their faith). Highly recommended!!
This Bible was produced for Catholic Scripture Study International, an organization which produces wonderful Bible study curricula for Catholic Christians. It is NOT a "study Bible," in that it contains the materials available in those Bible studies. It is to be used WITH them, or others (it works just fine with the GREAT ADVENTURE series, published by Ascension Press, too). Catholics who are serious about Bible study need separate references--concordance, dictionary, etc.--anyhow.
What this Bible DOES contain, however, is the excellent Revised Standard Version-Catholic Edition translation (still the very best modern English one out there, in my opinion) in large print, with the words of Christ in red type in the New Testament. It also has beautiful, color illustrations, charts, verse-finder pages, and short apologetics articles. All of this is wrapped up in a nice, leather binding, with ribbon markers. So, don't be discouraged by folks who are mistaken about what this Bible is claiming to be--it is GREAT for what it IS!
The bible is easy to read. I was expecting more information regarding each book in the bible, a larger concordance and possible some information regarding the saints in the Catholic Church (i.e. life and times). I do like the Catholic calendar of readings. It's helps to expand my Sunday readings from the "Mass".
