My new church uses NRSV and my Bibles were NIV and NKJV. I wanted the version being used in church so the words would be the same. I also wanted a Bible small enough to fit in my hands, light enough to carry in my work bag, and with print large enough to read. This Bible meets all of those requirements.
In the spirit of the scholarly and critical nature of the NRSV's translation committee, this review will be done from the standpoint of an owner with many fine bibles.
Text: This Bible is printed in China, but the text is crisp, clean, and beautiful! The print is very dark and easy on the eyes for such a small Bible. I love it-- on par with $150 Bibles.
Paper: The paper is nice. It is better than what you have come to expect from $20 bibles, but not quite up to the premium level-- which is OK.
Binding: The sewn binding is very tight, and it lays flat right out of the box (after you press it down, which most nice bibles require you to do as well).
Cover: I was a little disappointed in the burgundy bonded leather cover. The color is a dark burgundy, which is my personal preference but, it is a rather poor quality bonded leather (even in the standards of bonded leather bibles in say-- 2005; that's how drastically quality has fallen). Yet again, for $20 you really can't complain, you could get easily get a few years out of this bible if you took really good and careful care of it.
Overall: Great bible, great deal, great print, great translation. I recommend it and would buy it again.
This a great setting of the NRSV. The text is clean and highly readable much more so than I expected. Good quality bonded leather cover that's probably as nice as most standard leather covers (I'm not talking premium calfskin, just standard genuine leather). Good size not too small as to have tiny print. Highly recommended I wish I had bought it sooner.
