Review: Nowhere to Run by Amy Wallace begins with police officer Ashley Walters planning her wedding. Among all the excitement, she cannot seem to shake the feeling that she is being watched. She begins to receive gifts from an admirer. At first she believes them to be from her fiancé, Patrick. She finally realizes that they are from her stalker.

Patrick and her best friend Margo come up with a plan to have her join friends in a small Mennonite community. Ashley fights them but after Patrick is attacked she gives in to their request. The police investigate many different leads but cannot find the stalker. Ashley begins to believe that it is a fellow police officer. She even feels threatened in the Indiana community that should be a safe haven.

Ashley must face many fears. She questions if God is able to protect her and her family and if she will ever be able to marry Patrick. Nowhere to Run is an exciting book. If you like thrillers, you will enjoy trying to figure out who the stalker could be. This book is the second in the Place of Refuge series. I look forward to the next book in this series. (rev. What a suspenseful story! You will love the intrigue in this story and how quickly the story moves from one scene to the next. Ashley Walters is a police officer and finds herself being followed. Fearing for her safety she has to leave her day to day life and hide. She chooses a Mennonite community thinking she will be perfectly safe. Will she be safe or will danger follow!

I gave this book 4/5 stars. I liked the story and thought it did great at being an adventure novel. I did not think it did very well at keeping me interested. The dialogue was hard to get through at times and that made me want to skip parts. I did make it through the whole book but wish it had been better written. I recommend this book for anyone who likes suspenseful stories, Amish fiction or just wants an adventure book to escape into.

In this sequel to Hiding in Plain Sight, Ashley is being stalked. She reluctantly goes to a Mennonite community in Shipshewana, Indiana with her friend Maggie. She struggles with her faith in God as the terror continues.

The Mennonite community is mixed, that is, there are Plain People and those who dress more like the culture around them. The community is also a sheltering place. Ashley meets a woman who has been abused by her husband and is now hiding from him. When the abusive husbands comes to reclaim his wife, Ashley tries to help her see him for what he truly is.

This novel is a sequel and, unless you have read the first one, you may not be able to appreciate the full impact of this story. Many of the characters, including Ashley herself, had earlier traumatic experiences that play into this novel.

There is a great deal of character development and thinking in this novel. Ashley struggles with her faith in God, wondering why He is allowing all this to happen to her and the ones she loves. The action at the end is very exciting but most of the novel is Ashley working through issues inside.

One aspect of the novel I did not like was the police being portrayed as being so inept. Even though the police know Ashley and her loved ones are in danger, the stalker manages to outsmart various police agencies and hurt people. I understand this was necessary so Ashley could be the heroine in the story, but I certainly hope law enforcement is smarter than portrayed in this novel.

Wallace writes about internal struggles. She wrote this novel during a health crisis when she was asking the same questions Ashley was, Where is God when life hurts? Wallace was herself stalked when she was in college. She writes of Ashley's fear from her own experience. It causes the reader to think about the power a man has to destroy a woman's life, whether by stalking or by physical abuse.

I received an advanced egalley of this book for the purpose of this review.

This is the second book to the series. The background of the characters was brief and left me a little lost as to how everyone knew each other and what was going on. I would recommend you read the first book, Hiding in Plain Sight, Place of Refuge Series #1, before you pick this one up.

Nowhere to Run is a story about faith. Faith is something so many people struggle with. Will we choose to do it all in our own strength or trust in the One who created the universe? This is the battle Ashley Walters is facing.

As I read through the story I felt Ashley had no faith at all. It was her friends telling her to have faith and to put all her trust in God, which she wasn't willing to do until all else failed. I believe Ashley had the same issue in the first book. Maybe in the third book her faith will finally become solid. I really liked the fact that everyone she was surrounded by was pointing her in the right direction-to God.

The story was not as suspenseful as I thought it was going to be which was probably a good thing since it doesn't take much for me to become scared. I was never on the edge of my seat while reading this story, and lacked the "Just one more chapter" feeling keeping me up all night. However, I was totally clueless on who was stalking her and how they were going to catch him.

While the story was laid out well (apparently because something very similar happened to the author), this is not a book I would read again. Maybe its just because I am a lover of historical romance. I thought I would spread my wings a bit so to speak and try a suspense. You may love this book for the reasons I did not!
