I bought this book because I was getting the e-devotional and found I wanted to know more. It has not disappointed. In fact I also bought another Sproul book, Essential Truths of the Christian Faith, and would also recommend it highly. Sproul writes in an insightful manner and I find him very thought provoking.
I have loved RC Sproul for years. I will admit that i have not read the whole book--so please take my comment as you wish.
I am saddened to hear how RC puts God in a box. His exposition about whether or not God does miracles today is...sad. According to Sproul, if we define miracles to mean the beginning of life or salvation of our souls or running this world by his providence, then yes, they are still here today. However, if we mean the big things...like raising the dead, not possible. Personally, I have not met someone who has been risen from the dead, but i have met people being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer that have their entire midsection cancer-free from one test to the next; I have been entertained all evening by a young man who had a triple brain hemorrhage as an infant, given no chance to survive the night, but now is astounding on the piano, saxophone, etc. If God wanted it to happen, it wouldn't surprise me one bit nor would it upset His kingdom calendar. Doesn't matter if we have a Bible in hand or not. Those who believe little will see little--and those who teach others to put God in a little box to make the Lion of Judah behave will have to give an account someday. RC is very on target with some of his viewpoints--but as always, we should read with a discerning eye.
