Publisher's Description

Three hundred million – that’s the number of people subjected to slavery, sex-trafficking, discrimination, and unspeakable poverty in India. That’s the same number of people as live in the entire United States. They are the Dalit people, the untouchables.

When Matthew Cork, a California pastor, first encountered the Dalits he was shaken to his core. He learned that Gandhi’s success at bringing about freedom did not extend to freeing the Dalits from the bondage of the Caste system that has oppressed them for centuries. Cork was moved to commit his church to partner with The Dalit Freedom Network to build 200 schools over ten years, a commitment of over 20 million dollars. And they are doing it. The movement has gained such momentum that a dramatic, feature-length film, Not Today (Nottodaythemovie.com) is being produced and promoted by the same group that did so for Courageous, Facing the Giants, and Fireproof.

This book tells story of the Dalit people and the rising efforts to set them free, in both soul and society. It is a story of both brokenness and hope, of oppression and freedom. It calls the reader to join in the movement to freedom and restoration. The Dalits need your help. Why not start today'

Author Bio

MATTHEW CORK has received a B.A. in Communication Studies from Azusa Pacific University and a Master's degree in Pastoral Studies with an emphasis in Church Development. He is the lead pastor of Friends Church in Yorba Linda, California and has been on staff there for 23 years. Since becoming Lead Pastor in 2003, he has played a key role in transitioning them from a church in crisis to a church of transformation. Friends Church has three campuses in North Orange County and is doing extensive ministry around the corner and around the world. In 2007, on a trip to India, Matthew saw first hand the plight of 300 million Dalit people and the impact education can have on improving lives. God moved in Matthew's heart and shaped the vision for him personally and for Friends Church as they have embarked on "becoming the catalyst church to free the Dalits in our generation." Since then, they have built 40 educational centers throughout India, serving over 5,000 students. They also produced a full-length motion picture (released in 2013 by Lionsgate) called "Not Today," and Matthew released his first book, Why Not Today' His second book, Broken for Good, will release in September, 2015. Matthew lives in Yorba Linda with his wife Mardi and their three children: Nolan, Sophie, and Ella.

KENNETH KEMP, author and blogger, writes like he takes photographs. When a scene strikes him, he frames it and checks the lighting. If a story moves him, he takes on the challenge of capturing the essence in a narrative that will engage a reader. He complains that he has too much education. He currently serves as Western Regional Director for Global Generosity with Operation Mobilization, USA. He and his lifelong partner, Carolyn, cherish their children and grandchildren and live in Southern California. He is a graduate of Moody Bible Institute (B.A., 1971) and Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (M.Div., 1974), and the author of To Everything a Season, Fire in Paradise, Why Not Today, and Broken for Good.
