Pastor Kyle Idleman doesnt just want to be a fan of Jesus, he wants to full heartedly commit to him and be a follower of Jesus. But how can you make the leap from fan to follower? In Not a Fan Idleman uses biblical examples to show how the people who met Jesus also had to decide if they were fans or followers, and what it meant for them to then become followers. Being a follower doesnt mean that you go to church every week, that you slap a Jesus fish on the back of your car, and that you give to charity. Thats what a fan does. What a follower of Jesus does, Idleman observes, is die to themselves each and every moment of the day because you cant say yes to following Jesus unless you say no to living for yourself. In this three part book Idleman helps you to discover whether you are a fan or a follower, how to recognize the invitation Jesus has given, and what following Jesus looks like in your daily life. With humor and real life examples to draw you closer to Jesus, Kyle Idleman compels each and every one of us to Not Be A Fan
Kyle Idleman is the Teaching Pastor at Southeast Christian Church in Louisville, Kentucky, the fourth largest church in America. He is the author of the award-winning and best-selling book not a fan. He is also the presenter of several video curricula, including not a fan, H2O, and the newly released study gods at war.
Joan1 Stars Out Of 5Disappointing and simplisticJanuary 30, 2015JoanQuality: 5Value: 2Meets Expectations: 1I did not even finish this book. Read about 3/4 of it and found it to be pointless. Either you are a follower or not.. If you only know about Jesus, and don't believe Him to be the Savior and Son of God, you are certainly not even a fan. You have insulted Him by calling Him a liar and turning your back on Him. Fans don't do that. After all, He claimed to be God, and backed it up with proof, so if you don't believe it, but only know Him as a good guy and great teacher and example, the He is a liar as far as you are concerned, and a fraud. I expected more
Christy Bower5 Stars Out Of 5Brings an Unpopular Message to the ForefrontJanuary 24, 2015Christy BowerQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5When I started reading the first few chapters, I thought, Yeah, Ive got this down. This is too basic for where Im at now. But as I read further into Not a Fan, I found myself saying, Ouch. Thats a little close to home. I might need to work on that. Id say Kyle Idleman has something challenging for everyone, regardless of whether you know about God but havent made a commitment yet or whether youve been a committed follower for years. We all have areas in which we can be *better* followers. This book speaks to those areas, challenging us out of our complacency to take actionto take risks for God.
The author points out the less popular exhortations of Christ. In a culture where we want to be comfortable, he reminds us that Jesus called us to deny ourselves, accept pain, and drop everything to follow Him. Jesus wants us to follow Him wherever, whenever, and whatever. We can place no reservations or restrictions on how and when we are willing to follow God. This is a very much needed message for us and I thank Kyle Idleman for bringing an unpopular message back to the forefront.

Wonderfully written. It was what I needed to move my relationship with Jesus Christ in the right direction - the Better Life.
Janet5 Stars Out Of 5Not a FanJanuary 16, 2015JanetThis book was easy to read but so convicting. It points out the difference between being a fan or a follower of Jesus. Since reading it, I have bought several more books to give to friends.
