Nate you're missing the whole point. The fact that God chose us does not mean that God has faith in us. God chose us because he loves us. If you miss that in the Bible, then you miss the whole point of the Gospel. It's not about us! If God chose us because of having faith in us, then his love would not be unconditional. Your misunderstanding of God's character and intent is a prime example of the fruit of Rob Bell's inaccurate teachings. I sincerely want you to see what the Bible says rather than what Rob Bell says. God loves you unconditionally! Peace brother.
Dust was the very first of the 22 Nooma's I watched & treasured over & over. Rob Bell speaks on so many spiritual levels that I am stunned by the power of the very brief message. The complete series has proven to be amazingly entertaining, unexpected, entirely thought-provoking & with a few DVD's, even jolting. Great for discussions! Appropriate for ages Jr. High through Adult-A bit of OT & NT history, Jesus, us & Life.
As with most of the Emergent Church's Post-Modern philosophy I find this DVD to be very dangerous and harmful to the Word of God and to the true Church of Christ. Here are a few points that arise on the short video. 1. Jesus was a carpenter not a Rabbi when he called Peter and Andrew so Ron's reasons for them to follow Jesus were incorrect. 2. Old Testament Rabbi's taught God's Word, not interpreted it (such as the emergent church does) although the Rabbi's that were out for themselves obviously interpreted it for their own gain. 3. Rabbi's were not always revered. Many times they were hated by the common man, reigning over them with an iron fist. 4. Jesus never said "Follow Me and you can be like Me", in principle or otherwise. 5. Peter had not yet devoted his whole life to following Jesus at the time of the boat. It took the resurrection for him to become a devoted follower. 6. The main point and flaw in Ron's sermon was that Peter lost faith in himself, that's why he sank in the water. It's obvious he lost faith in Jesus and took his eyes off Him. Since when are we supposed to have faith in ourselves? 7. Nowhere does it say Jesus has faith in us. Proverbs 14:12 There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death.
Erik you're missing the whole point. He is saying that God chose us, we didn't all of a sudden choose God. He chose us before the creation of the world. And if God chose you and I then he obviously has faith in you and I.
