Publisher's Description

Living Bold as a Christ-like Man

"Recovering nice guy" Paul Coughlin points the way for al men who yearn to live a life of boldness and conviction--like Jesus. Using humorous examples from his own life, powerful and poignant stories, and vivid examples from contemporary culture, Coughlin shows how he learned to say no to the "nice guy" syndrome.

After all, Christian nice guys aren't always so nice. In the name of appearing Christian by being agreeable, they can lie, keep secrets, manipulate, duck responsibility, and much more. Using the biblical model of Christ as his example of a real man, Coughlin shows men how to become both gentle and bold.

A powerful challenge and a hopeful message that elevates the true biblical model of manhood above prevailing views in the church and contemporary culture, this important book helps men discover who they are in Christ and how to live for Him.

I recently went through a very difficult time with a family member who actually got abusive. I was quite depressed when I heard Paul talking about this book. I am female but he was telling my story. Everything he said was me. I never realized though in being nice that I had become fake. The family member that had hurt me would never listen to what any of us have to say but gives her advise freely and demands you think like her or she gets mean and rageful. I was nice to not get hurt cuz I like paul was broken inside like humpty Dumpty. Two days ago I believe he was truly who God wanted me to hear because I was so miserable inside I thought of ending life. To know this man really lives what he teaches and came out of such abuse and pain to be real and authentic helped me so much. I got his book for woman and men. Brilliant writing. Never ever considered that to be nice was cuz of fear of man. WHoa and he is write people lie over and over due to it. I see more lies and manipulation with christians than the real world. The world just speaks it out like they feel. Thank-you Paul for writing both books. The reason I read the mens was cuz I have sons I want to give it too. Thanks so much, fabulous and brilliantly written.

Fantastic, powerful insight into the problems presented when Christian men are taught and ultimately live as nice men rather than good men who are able to embrace all that God meant for a man to be. Great book

This book is helping me be the man that God created me to be. I accidentally stumbled upon this book while listening to some focus on the family podcasts and am so thankful I did. I had long been suffering from being a nice guy and this book showed me that there is hope and that we were not meant to live small. I had chocked my relationship with God and others and was living a very unsatisfying and sinful passive life. I am now on a journey to discovering the full rich and beautiful life God has for me, and without this book I do not know if I would have ever made it on this journey. Thank you Paul. I highly recommend that everyone reads this book.

I wrote a very positive review for this book years ago. For me, this book hit a lot of good points about what went wrong with the church's teachings and the twisted perception of Christian masculinity. However, I have tried applying this book to my life. Years later, I can say that I have rejected every change that had resulted from the reading of this book. I believe that the message had been tainted somehow, but I cannot pinpoint it exactly (a message, even if good, cannot edify if the speaker is uncrucified). I agree with most of his points, but this book did not help me spiritually and has actually damaged my witness. That is my objection. This is not the path to the Godly manliness that Christ portrayed.
