The Mosaic Holy Bible makes a lovely addition to any Bible student's collection. The variety offered in each week's study is a rich highlight. "Epiphany, Week 6," for example, is focused on Seeking and Saving. Under that umbrella we have numerous scripture readings, accompanied by a Chinese painting depicting The Parable of the Lost Son; a short message about joyful evangelism; another (by Dan Kimball) cautioning us against isolationism; an excellent application devotional by Jay Blevins; a short teaching by Greek theologian Athanasius of Alexandria; an applicable quote by Richard Baxter of 17th Century England; a prayer by Sir Francis Drake; and a place for the student to write in "Reflection." This is the perfect Bible for the student who struggles to stay with studies that become rote. Mosaic brings the reader something new every day.

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful! I love it, and I love the version used. I'm Lutheran and am always looking for neat devotions to coincide with the church calendar, so this Bible is a bonus. I especially love that it isn't "emergent" or part of the "spiritual formation" movement--just Christian History throughout the centuries--ALL Christian History.

It was stated in the users guide that this Bible's purpose is to provide a way to encounter Christ on every continent and in every century of Christian history. To show that we are part of a mosaic, a patchwork of people, places, times and cultures, that depicts one person: Jesus Christ. I feel this Bible met its purpose. The contributors did a great job organizing this Bible and presenting the larger community of Christians. This Bible is divided into two section. The first half of the book contains weekly meditations. They are designed to be used in connection with the church year. These weekly meditation contain quotations, poems or other writings,by people all over the world, that correspond to the scriptures that are presented. I think for someone like myself that can not physically attend mass every week, this is a good way to stay connected with Christ and to follow readings that correspond with the church seasons. This section offers suggested readings, prayers and a place to write down your own reflections, as well as beautiful artwork. The second half of the book is the New Living Translation of the Old and New Testaments. It is nice having this in the same book as the meditation section, although it is also nice having it seperated so that if you are more comfortable reading a different version of the Bible you can still follow along with the weekly meditations. I found the New Living Translation easy to read. I liked that along with this Bible, you can also go to the Holy Bible: Mosaic web site. You may need this to help you know exactly where we are in the church calendar and what week to follow in the meditations(although you may read what ever chapter you would like). Although I have not used the next feature, there is also a discussion forum on their site.

I love this bible. The description here at CBD doesn't do it justice. The 52 weekly devotionals are at the front of the bible and printed on a rich, cream coloured paper - which is important for showcasing the modern and historical art, the poetry and writings from a broad spectrum of both contemporary and historical Christian figures. If you follow your own reading plan there are symbols throughout the text that take you to the devotional material to further enhance your own reading. Center column references are actually helpful. This is not a standard 'devotional' bible. It doesn't offer little nuggets of wisdom. It's thoughtful reading and beautiful to hold. I can't recommend it enough.
