This Bible provides study notes as taught by the Early Church Fathers. It is authorized by the Orthodox Church - universally and by all jurisdictions - who historically is made up of those who wrote, edited, compiled and interpreted the Bible. They lived in that era, and understood the language and the culture. No other study bible can have the credebility that this bible has.
This is a good study Bible, but I find it a little hard to recommend to non-Orthodox readers. For someone looking for an introduction to Orthodox Christianity, it is a little dense. I was hoping for more in the way of comparing and contrasting the various Christian viewpoints in layman's terms. I was also hoping the study notes themselves would provide better insights into the Orthodox interpretations of Scripture. In other words, this may be a good study Bible if one is already Orthodox, but provides no particular advantage over other study Bibles if one is not.
I would certainly recommend this edition of the New Testament and Psalms. The commentaries by the world's eminent Orthodox scholars make for illuminating reading as they help one understand the word of God. The Orthodox colour iconography included in this edition is also beautiful.
