I got my copy of the NKJV Pitt Minion (goatskin leather) of course, this morning. I was on my way to work on the subway and opened it fresh out the box. I fell in love...
First off I will start by stating what I dont like about the Pitt Minion I got. (The ribbon) I was hoping for a satin or velvet ribbon but thats a small complaint and to me did not take away from my overall feeling of the bible. I dont know off hand what material the ribbon is made from but it doesnt really feel high quality but whatever I'm still happy.
Maybe I am doing what alot of others do when they spend $115 on a bible (over analyzing) Lol but hey for that price I think we should be picky, I mean the R.L. Allens are more expensive than the pitt but still and all my budget tells me wow man you spent a good chunk on it. I noticed also that the inside is not leather its like a cardboard so if your looking for flexibility like that of the allens you wont find it here. Although I will say yes it does bend a nice amount but you wont be able to roll it like the allens.
In any case now I will speak about the good things I see in my Pitt Minion ,which are the quality of the leather the Goatskin feels so much better to me then the genuine leather or the bonded leather bibles. At home I have 2 Thompson chain reference bibles that are genuine leather and lay flat but the feel on the minion is awsome.
The size of the minion to me is perfect for travel and on the go reading, I was holding it in the palm of my hand and can hold it with one hand in the open position and read calmly with no issues. I also like the font I tried reading with my glasses on and it was perfect and I took them off and it was fine also I was ok but of course with the glasses for me is better. I read that the font is 6.75 which I am used to as I have another travel bible which is the same font size but of much lower quality in terms of leather.
I love the ink print and btw this bible I ordered was printed and bound in the netherlands which is great as per something being printed out of korea or china where the quality wont be that great. The ink is very dark and the pages very white so the words jump out at you kinda like 3D almost. I am very satisfied with my purchase.
My next bible is going to be an R.L. Allen in october. I want to have an allen, and eventual a schuyler. I hear those are the lamborghinis and ferraris of bibles. I smelt my bible also and could immediately tell this was quality stuff.mmmmmm.
I will conclude by saying this is a great buy and great bible definately worth the money even though I wish was a bit cheaper but hey thats in a perfect world and me being cheap lol. I truly believe this is one you need to add to your collection for certain. I hope this helps all the other bibleholics out there. God bless.
This Bible is just sheer quality. The print is a lot bigger than everybody says, it's much more readable than regular compacts and thinlines. I ABSOLUTELY recommend this Bible to anyone. This is a lifetime Bible, it will last forever. Especially the leather...nicest leather I've ever held.
This Bible is the perfect size for carrying in my purse. Although it's small, I wear glasses and have no trouble reading the print. I love that it's extremely well made. This is a lifetime Bible that I'm proud to recommend to friends and family.
The cover really is elegant: What leather covers should be in a time when the concept of a leather Bible cover has suffered. For such a small, thin Bible it still lays flat when opened.
I enjoy the text being uncluttered with every kind of note, yet there are enough in the middle.
The maps are better than some other Bibles I've owned, and the concordance is adequate. One nice touch is that the maps have an associated index where one can look up a city and it will show by grid coordinates where it is on each map.
The pages are of a quality I haven't seen before: Soft and thin, yet strong, they do not crackle. Time will tell how they wear.
Two issues: One, the price was too high for the size of this work. That's why the value was marked down one level. And two, the page gilding has a characteristic such that if one fans the pages, the color turns from gold to an orangy color. I suspect that's because the gilding wasn't thick enough.
This is a beautiful little high quality Bible that is perfect for portable use and regular reading.
