Pastor WayneMIAge: 45-54Gender: male5 Stars Out Of 5NKJV Study Bible: Holman Bible Publishers has done a great thing!October 27, 2014Pastor WayneMIAge: 45-54Gender: maleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5First and foremost, the Study Bible Holman Publishers has put together is absolutely beautiful. There are very few doctrinally sound NKJV Study Bibles out there. That is why I'm am very thankful for Holman Publishers publishing the NKJV Study Bible.
The text is very easy on the eyes and the pages are not too thin. The contrast between the white pages and black and red fonts is just right. The thumb indexes are one of a kind: gold lettering on black for the O.T. and gold lettering on red for the N.T.
The essays are so valuable and have been written by true defenders of the faith: Mark Dever, Craig Evans, Jeremy Howard, Bruce Ware, Paige Patterson, Craig Blomberg and the list goes on. The Hebrew and Greek word studies are so helpful. And the maps, illustrations, and charts are great.
Unlike the ESV (a solid translation also), when in the N.T. an O.T. passage is quoted, the quotation is in italics. In the ESV, O.T. passages are blended in the N.T. text. You would "have to know" that it is an O.T. quotation.
Also, the study notes on soteriology (doctrine of salvation) is rock solid. To God be the Glory for the great thing He has done!
I'm so thankful to the contributors of the study notes for not compromising on the doctrine of the Eternality of the Son of God (Heb. 1:5). Christ always has been the Son of God. From everlasting to everlasting Jesus the Christ is the Son of God. He did not come and "play the role of a son" because "is" the Son of God.
Holman has done a great work by putting together this Study Bible. Do not hesitate to purchase one. You will not be disappointed. Holman Bible Publishers has done a great thing!
jerryofthe5ws4 Stars Out Of 5A pretty good Study Bible from Holman ....May 4, 2014jerryofthe5wsQuality: 5Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4DISCLAIMER: I was provided a review copy free of charge from Holman publishers in exchange for writing this review. I was not required to write a positive one, only an honest one.
The Holman NKJV Study Bible is a welcome addition in the arena of Study Bible offerings available to the Christian that really informs and inform it does well. The theologically conservative notes (15,000 of them by count) and helps surrounding the NKJV text come straight from the popular 2011 HCSB Study Bible sans HCSB specific helps. While it doesn't have the same aesthetic that made the HCSB Study Bible so appealing to read, still, it does satisfy on many levels. I like the liberal use of color within, particularly the color blue to identify verse numbers, cross references, and study notes beneath the text. Words of Christ are in red but not a flaming red. The leather seems sturdy enough but I wish Holman would've seen to it for the leather to have a bit of sheen and a little more texture. I find it rather plain in appearance as Bible leathers go. The index tabs for the OT are in black and red for the NT. Unfortunately, I can't figure out if some of the tabs may have been placed in a crooked fashion when added in the production process or if the cutting used to produce staggered indents is responsible. I've pulled more than several pieces of "cutaways" from the pages. Sometimes the cuts are rather rough with ragged edges. To me, this smacks of a quality control production issue and not representative of every copy produced. The Bible comes with a black ribbon marker which I assume is meant for OT placement and a red one for the NT. Separating the two would've have settle the question of their intended use. Following the end of the Revelation, we are met with a 62 page Bible Concordance, two Bible reading plans, art credits, and eight beautiful color maps. I would've hoped for a index to the maps which would not have added a significant number of pages. We are left to discover locations randomly instead of being provided guidance. Something else I would've like to have seen is a little more detail to book outlines. The New Open Bible reigns supreme here. Holman would've done well to mimic the format if not negotiate their inclusion. The photos used give us insight to the land. I find the maps rich in color (but not cartoonish) and very useful. Charts are plentiful. In my estimation, the Proverbs Topical Chart is worth the price of the Bible! I'm unaware of any other Bible that hosts it. Illustrations vary from heavy, colored pencil line drawings to life-like semblances. Something I've seen for the first time in a two-column Study Bible is how the cross references justify to the left to coincide with the left column and justifies to the right for the right column. Its a small thing but I appreciate it.
Despite my minor quibbles with the above mentioned items, I really like this Holman Bible. If you're looking at Study Bibles married to the NKJV, give this Holman offering due consideration.

The cover is pretty and I like the index feature. The index of the OT & NT is in two different colors. The text size is great since it is a larger font and the notes are still really well readable. I have glasses any ways but the text sizes make it very easy on the eyes. Since this bible has a lot of text and maps and explanations it is a bit heavy, but this was expected. The bible has 2 book marks and also 2 different study guides. I love the extra explanations. The text is clear and crisp and the thickness of the pages is just right, not flimsy like in some bibles but just right. Other wise the bible would be even heavier. I enjoy reading it at home and also have good explanations with maps and historical back ground. Up front it has a plenty of pages to mark births or marriages and other special events in your life. Great purchase. My church uses the old KJV and I use a smaller bible for that, but at home I prefer the NKJV as a compromise. I just hadn't found a study bible I liked so far, but this one was well worth the money.
TrailblazerAge: 55-65Gender: male5 Stars Out Of 5More Beautiful than PicturedFebruary 19, 2014TrailblazerAge: 55-65Gender: maleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This Bible arrived today and the cover and material is outstanding. Looks like a $100.00 Bible. The color is more dark brown than mahogany pictured. The inside print is crisp and clear, red words of Jesus are easy to read. Font is nice size and Bible is flexible in the hands. Would recommend the thumb-indexing to add style and classic looks.
