NIV Single-Column Bible
NIV Single Column Bible (No refer. edition Leather
Greetings. I just received this Bible...please note that the description here for this item states Bonded, but it is not. It is their top of the line Premium leather. This edition has no references, except the regular NIV alternate footnote renderings and some references that are a part of the NIV. The other similar Single Column that is offered by Zondervan has vertical cross references also: meaning there are two kinds of single column NIV's to choose from in different bindings. But what I like about this layout is that the text is centered down each page leaving marginal room on the outer edge and in the gutter. Love that! The font/print size is not big, but I would say it probably would be declared a medium. People having trouble with their eyes might want to check a real copy before buying it. But it is working for me! I am so happy. There is a lot of text on a page and thereby gives a great overview of the text, but also it starts a new Book of the Bible on a new page. So, it has a great spacious feel in many ways. The paper is obviously thicker than most as it is a good medium to large size Bible, but in no way huge. It contains no maps, but has a very usable concordance in the back, and the typical NIV weight and measurement page. A presentation page, and intro for the NIV edition, and as a previous buyer stated, the binding is very, very nice. Sewn from China. Paper liner might be the only strange thing about it for such a high quality Bible. The red art-gilt is amazing! Immediately brings the Bible into a luxury level, in my opinion. I've been studying so many study Bibles lately, so it is absolutely refreshing to just read the Word in this way. I am very grateful for this Bible; it was just what I needed. Thanks.

Quality Premium NIV
I wrote a review of the tru tone edition but wanted to add a couple notes and pics for the premium edition. The leather is soft and smooth, but the liner is unfortunately paper...either way there is good flexibility. The binding on the bible is sewn. And here is the quality kicker: the page edges are art gilt (ie red under gold)! I was completely surprised by this...normally to get red under gold page edges you have to go with an Oxford or Cambridge Bible, but Zondervan has added a nice touch of elegance with the art gilt edges.

Great Edition of the 2011 NIV
I am very pleased with this edition.
The covers are decent, but the text block it sewn which really adds to the longevity and quality. The bible is a nice size as well at about 6"x9."
The text layout is nice. The update NIV is laid out in a readable single column format, with plenty of margin on the inside and outside of the text so it does curve into the gutter...this also means there is plenty of room to make notes.
The paper is reasonably thick, and I would say that the ghosting is better than average.
In all a very readable single column with minimal distractions...my only complaint would be that I would like the text a touch larger but it is perfectly readable as is.

As a pastor, I own a lot of Bibles. I have been looking for a Single Column NIV for awhile and when this came out, I had to get it. First of all, I love the cover. It is not real leather, but feels nice to the touch and very soft. It has a very old look to it, but I love that the cover is not stiff as so many Duo Tones can be. Inside the font is very easy to read for my 57 yr old eyes, so I had no problems reading it. Also I love that the text is in the middle of the page and there is about an inch and a half margin around it. Easy for you to put notes along the pages on either side. Also the text is black letter which I prefer. I know some people think the red letter is holy or something but that was not even added to the Bible until 1900. The problem with red letter is that some of the Bibles are printed so light, I can not read it. Those that have more of a brick red color is fine, but red or light red is just too difficult for my eyes. The paper is very good and not much bleed through and writing notes should not be a problem. Now if you are a Bible marker, like I am, I use the Crayola Twistables pencils. I have no problems doing a light underline and it will not bleed through no matter the paper. This is now the Bible I will be teaching out of. It is a bigger and heavier then the thinline Bibles, but it is a good size for me and again, easy on the eyes. Wonderful Bible and you can not beat the price.
