When reading the Scofield Study Bible III in the New International Version (1984 format,) you get within the pages a lot of insight that even some scholars of the bible might seem to overlook. This Study Bible many a times gets overlooked by other different Study Bibles such as the Life Application, The Ryrie Study Bible, The Life in the Spirit Study Bible- (formerly The Full Life Study Bible,) The Quest Study Bible, The Fire Bible, etc. All of the above mentioned are good, but they don't match the beauty of C.I.Scofield's study notes. These notes are used to basically make it easier to help you apply the scripture to your life, to aid you in living the type of life that our Lord called us to lead in him when we first accepted him as Lord and Savior. It also gives you the proper unstanding of scripture to make application easier. Once you get this bible in your hands, you will NEVER want to put it down! Not to mention the specifications this bible contains: Black & White maps throughout the bible, Full color maps in the back, study notes, words of Christ in red letter, a synopsis of what each book is about, and the genuine leather cover has to be one of the best-strengthened kinds in the world. Yes, this bible is a must have for ANY christian, including new believers. You are only cheating yourselves by not owning one.
First and foremost, the study notes are clearly presented and accurate. They are consistent with most well respected independent reference sources such as Vine's and common guidelines for Bible study. The notes are appropriately placed and the concordance is fairly exhaustive and easy to use. The study notes are presented in a denominationally neutral manner and are free from biases often labeled along the lines of a range of conservatism.
I have purchased two of this particular edition and style of binding. I recently bought a second one after giving my first copy of this excellent resource to a friend who has developed a keen hunger for spiritually mature Bible study. The binding is very durable, printing clear, and layout of study/reference resources intuitively placed.
In short, it is one of the best study Bibles in print.
There is no bible that will please everyone. There are a lot of versions of the bible available, and I suggest everyone use several versions when studying.
This particular bible has very clear text and is easy to read. It is Smyth Sewn (not glued), which will allow you to use it for years to come.
I grew up in a Mennonite Church reading ONLY the KJV, but am now enjoying time with other versions of the bible. I really like the 1984 version of the NIV and would not have purchased this if it had been the 2011 version.
