I think that this Bible will appeal to young girls and teens. My family generally uses the NIV translation so I have no complaints as far as that goes. I personally prefer the NIV Study Bibles with commentary written at the bottom of each page. Since this does not have the study notes, I think that it is perfect for younger girls or teens who generally do not do in-depth study of the Bible or who have access to other sources of study material should they need it. Personally, I feel that getting a the written Word of God in the hands of young children and teens is very important! Having the attraction of this cover and font colors may make reading the Bible more appealing to the younger generation. My 8 1/2 year old daughter absolutely loves this cover! As soon as she saw this Bible, she asked if she could read it. She has read the first several chapters of Genesis so far! When I pointed out the "Through the Bible in a Year" checklist, she was excited to start the reading plan.
One negative thing to point out... We have had this Bible for about 2 months now (I know, I am behind on my reviews!) and the hard cover binding is already torn partially at the seams. To be honest, I am not sure if my girls did something to cause it or not and they can't remember how it happened. I will easily fix it with decorative Duck Tape however, it is disappointing that the cover did not last a month before tearing. I would hope that a book made for youth would hold up better. Still, I am not giving this a negative review because it very well could have been caused from my girls not caring for it properly.
In accordance with the Federal Trade Commission I am required to disclose that Zondervan provided this book for free in exchange for my review. I was not required to write a positive review and the opinions I have expressed are my own.
This gorgeous Bible from Zondervan Faithgirlz is perfect for 8 - 12 year olds. This is my favorite one I've seen so far from Faithgirlz and they are already my favorite Bibles for girls. The extra features written by Nancy Rue, author of the Here's Lily series, are great and you never have to worry about the appropriateness (if that's a word) of the topics with Faithgirlz and Nancy Rue. I have found them both to be completely safe with regards to anything I or my daughter have read by them.
The inside is beautiful as well with easy to read dark purple text and pink headings. The extra features are pretty and tasteful and will appeal to older girls as well. The whole Bible, cover to cover, seems to be a good quality, well done book that will last for years.
If you are looking for a Bible for a tween girl or a first full Bible for a slightly younger girl, this is a great choice!
I am enamored with the FaithGirlz line. My oldest grand girl has just entered the target age group and it has been a delight to share the different books with her. I recently received the new NIV FaithGirlz Bible and we had a great time pouring over it and discussing what we liked about the different features.
It comes with a hard back cover that has a magnetic flap closure. I love the durability of a hard back Bible for younger kids. It is a bit heavier but the sturdiness and lay flat design make up for that. But what's fun about a durable Bible that doesn't have a cute design? I'm happy to say that this particular Bible has an adorable owl motif that is shiny and sparkly. What girl doesn't like a little shiny and sparkly in her life?
While the cover is cute it is what lies within that matters. My girl and I both liked the layout. Each book begins with a title page that introduces the book and gives an overview of what is contained. There is also a section written by Nancy Rue that helps relate that particular book of the Bible to your girl's life. Nancy has such a way of speaking truth to young girls and this particular element is a very nice touch.
We also liked many of the other features that made this Bible very interactive. The Bring It On! sections are scattered throughout and they ask a particular question with a multiple choice set of answers. On the opposite page is the second part of the Bring It On! portion. It says If you answered . . . (A., B., or C) then go to a particular Scripture reference. How's that for getting your girl to explore the Scriptures?
I am a list-maker box-checker by nature so the Bible reading plan in the back really appealed to me. It breaks the readings down into very manageable portions and then has a box to check when it is completed. It is designed to be done in a year but with the box check system your girl can do it at whatever pace they are comfortable with.
If you are looking for a way to stimulate interest in Scripture reading and study in your girl I would say that you can't go wrong with this particular Bible. It is appealing to the eye and will speak truth to her soul. What more could you ask for?
I received a copy of this book to facilitate my review.
