Product Description

Experience the Bible through the eyes of a first-century disciple by exploring the cultural, religious, and historical background of the Bible. This Bible allows you to understand God’s Word in its original cultural context, bringing Scripture to life by providing fresh understanding to familiar passages, beloved stories and all the Scripture in between. The NIV Cultural Background Study Bible invites you into the questions, stories, and interpretations—both ancient and modern—which introduce you to a world vastly different from your own. Let us read with an eye on the past and with our feet planted in our present questions and circumstances.

Join Kent Dobson as he unpacks the culture of Bible times, and illuminates Scripture passages while asking thoughtful questions along the way. Kent is the teaching pastor at Mars Hill Bible Church in Grandville, Michigan, where he initially served as the worship director. He has been featured on Biblical programs for the History Channel and the Discovery Channel. Kent fell in love with Biblical studies in Israel and had the privilege of learning from both Jewish and Christian scholars. After his time in Israel, he returned to the States to teach high school religion and Bible before responding to God's call to the pastorate. Today, he keeps his connection to the Holy Land strong as he leads tours to Israel that combine study and prayer, inspired by the ancient discipline of spiritual pilgrimage.

This is a good looking, well bound copy of the 1st century NIV study Bible. There is a lot of information about the way people lived, worked, and worshipped in the time just after Christ Jesus was crucified. There are a lot of beautiful pictures, and study helps. The imitation leather is ok, but I don't care much for the long strap that you have to wrap around the bible to hold the cover closed. Velcro, or a good old fashioned snap would have worked nicely. I still give this Bible 5 stars, as it is a great value from CBD, and a Great copy of GODS'

    WONDERFUL WORD .

The pictures and background information on the books and locations are worth the price of the Bible by themselves. I only wish it had a little more in the way of references -on the sides of the pages- in the margins...instead of the few they added at bottom of some pages of the pages. Beautiful actual covers on the book. What is shown in the picture is just the jacket. The Bible is much prettier...a medium blue with a tan on one side. Book measures 6.5" x 9.5" x 2". Gorgeous full color photos. Makes you feel like you are taking a tour of the Holy Land! Should be a huge help in learning more about the Savior and the way they lived back then...and ultimately bring people closer to God.

This Bible is a mix of liberal ecclesiastical Church "Fathers" and Rabbinical beliefs, muted by disclaimers by the author. This book is better suited for seminary debate as I heard the same unbelief in seminary years ago and now it is in a "study" Bible. Not for conservative Bible-believing Christians.

This is a very well made hardback Bible, full of interesting facts about the early lives of GODS' children.

Beautiful colour, maps, pictures, and clear, good size print, makes for enjoyable study, and devotion time. I highly recommend one of these Bibles for your Library.

May GOD bless you with a full understanding of HIS wonderful WORD.

I am questioning the title of the bible itself. 1st century bible should have writings from the first century. The Council of Trent chose the books that are present in the bible, and that was in the 14th century. The glossary was very informative and I would use the bible in my sunday school class. Just a thought...if the reference says its dated writings, it should have the original writings of that century.
