This is a uniquely designed NIV Bible. It is filled with features that are designed to draw its readers to finding recovery as they break free from the hurts and addictions that trap so many people today. One such powerful feature is The Road To Recovery. The Road To Recovery, based on the beatitudes, are eight principles designed to guide one through a process of change, love, and faith.
Other features include: Book Introductions, Character Studies, Recovery Stories, Lesson Studies, Recovery Related Scripture Tie, Daily Devotionals, Subject Index, and several others. Each of these features is designed so those utilizing this Bible get the most out of scripture while going through the recovery process.
There is one important feature that this Bible is missing; it is not a red letter edition. I understand that this raises the cost of printing, but the designation of Christ's Words in red allows new or young Christians to know without a doubt that these are His personal instruction, His personal words.
This Bible would make a wonderful gift for someone struggling within the difficulties that have entered their lives, thus it is a recommended purchase.

mojoTexasAge: 35-44Gender: male4 Stars Out Of 5Great aid for recoveryJuly 18, 2014mojoTexasAge: 35-44Gender: maleQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4In case you don't know, Celebrate Recovery is a biblical and balanced program that helps us overcome our hurts, hang-ups, and habits. It is based on the actual words of Jesus rather than psychological theory. 20 years ago, Saddleback Church launched Celebrate Recovery with 43 people. It was designed as a program to help those struggling with hurts, habits and hang-ups by showing them the loving power of Jesus Christ through a recovery process. Celebrate Recovery has helped more than 17000 people at Saddleback, attracting over 70% of its members from outside the church. Eighty-five percent of the people who go through the program stay with the church and nearly half serve as church volunteers.
Celebrate Recovery is now in over 20,000 churches worldwide!
The Celebrate Recovery Bible is geared to be used with the Celebrate Recovery program or to be used as an introduction to those not in the program yet.
The "Road to Recovery" is based off of 8 Biblical principles (very similar to a 12 step program) taken directly from the teachings of Christ. So the CR Bible is assembled to include notes and helpful references that highlight the foundations of the CR program.
The Bible includes a small study on each of the 8 Biblical principles as well as a 30 Day devotional in the back.
The notes and references pay careful attention to highlight struggles and addictions as do the many character studies. The Bible also contains "Recovery Stories" which are modern day testimony's from people who have successfully navigated the CR program.
The CR Bible is another testimony how diverse and rich the word of God is. This is a wonderful companion to anyone who has gone through the program and is highly recommended for anyone who struggles with recovery and healing.
Thank you to Zondervan for this preview copy in exchange for a fair and honest review.
Floyd JohnsonUpstate NYAge: 55-65Gender: male4 Stars Out Of 5Celebrate Recovery Bible - Worth CelebratingJuly 14, 2014Floyd JohnsonUpstate NYAge: 55-65Gender: maleQuality: 5Value: 4Meets Expectations: 5Since 2007, the Celebrate Recovery Bible (CBR) has been a standard resource for those working with those working through various recovery programs within the church. In 2014, Zondervan created a slightly revised (i.e. very slightly revised) version of this work. The major change was an updated Bible text: the 2007 CBR was based on the 1984 edition of the NIV; the 2014 CBR is based on the 2011 edition of the NIV.
The back cover suggests that two "lessons" have been removed from the newer edition (reduced from 112 to 110 lessons). All other material remains essentially unchanged - though I did not look at all the text, I could find no changes in the various essays, lessons, and biographical material I did examine.
As in the past, Celebrate Recovery uses an eight step recovery process - rather than the better known 12 step process. I did not find this to be difficult as I have seen in my studies of the recovery movement programs ranging from 8 to 10 to 12 to endless steps. Regardless of what model seems most helpful, the Celebrate Recovery Bible will serve as a helpful tool in growing as a believer during the recovery process.
On the other hand, if you own the earlier version of the CBR, I see no reason to make an additional purchase of this new version, unless you are a strong supporter of the 2011 NIV. If you do not own a copy of the CBR, picking up a copy of this Bible will help an individual in their own spiritual growth or assist the one walking alongside someone on their own spiritual journey.
