I had been using a family bible for bible study classes. Didn't want to write or highlight the pages so I had to take notebooks with me so I could take many notes as I have only been doing bible study for a couple years. Also during the classes others seemed to have a better understanding than I did (because they had the additional information not provided in the family bible). I do feel better about highlighting and making notes in this Bible than my other one and love having the extra insight the notes provide. The only problem I have with this book is that it weighs a "ton." Not really that much but it is very heavy to carry around.
This version of the NIV,2011, is a good version of the NIV with it new changes from the last update. The leather on the Bible is good, not the highest quality but what is expected at this price point. What I did not like is that after having the Bible for a couple of weeks I turned to a certain page to find that a good part of the top corner was torn off and missing all together from the book. There should have been better construction and care in the making of the book. I should have returned it, but time gets a way from you and can only do so much at a time.
I can say that the study notes in this version are good and there are good cross references and a concordance in the back of the Bible.
