I purchased the 2007 set of these DVDs and I listen to them over and over again. King Saul has his own voice and so does King David and others. When I listen to the Psalms if David wrote the Psalm I am listening to, then it is the same voice that I hear. It does have music in the background but the music is soft and it doesn't prevent you from hearing the words like some TV shows that I have watched. I love these DVDs so I told my sister about them. She just received the 2012 version which looks exactly like my 2007 version and here is what she said about them in an e-mail to me.
"I just received this and I love it I am already on Gen 24. Thanks for the tip"
I wanted to purchase the Bible on CD to listen to. As the Bible tells us, "So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ." Romans 10:17 ... but for me it was important to not have a dull voice over simply reading. I listened to the clip of this CD set online and liked the dramatization presented along with a bed of music playing.
However, I was really disappointed when I received the CDs, as the same voices are not used in the entire presentation ... and there are sections that are not dramatized, or the person doing the reading doesn't seem inspired ... a few of the voices feel like I am listening to a radio announcer ... one seems similar to one of the DJ's on KLOVE who jokes around too much. Too salesy a voice, not humble. So, that was a turn off .. and there is one woman's voice who reads a few of the psalms (one of my favorites that was horribly read - and I say read, because it wasn't like it was spoken with the heart). Her voice was just too grating on my ears ... I was disappointed.
So I feel that the sample was a bit misleading ... because I made my purchasing decision based upon that sample. And one would think that the product is consistent throughout, not just in the sample that is enticing you to buy it. I did sample other Audio Bibles. I am not totally happy, since it was an investment. The CD's are organized in a nice zip carrying case. But the more important aspect is having great voice overs, so that you want to play them over and over ... Bringing the Bible to life in audio is difficult ... and I have sat in church long enough to hear monotone readings of scripture, or reading by voices that are not music to my ears.
I have since found out that JIm Cavezel who played Christ in The Passion has been involved with another dramatized Bible on CD that uses famous actor's voices. That may have been a better choice for me.
At first i thought the item was a little pricey, since i live in canada, but when i realized that there were 64 tapes and i enjoy listening to them, i was not sorry i purchased them. I especially enjoy the animated voices.
(God's Word does comes to life)
Thank you so much for all the work that must have gone into creating these cd,s.
I recently purchased the NIV Audio Bible as a suppliment to my own Bible reading. Although it's dramatized, it doesn't take away from God's message to mankind. I also enjoy the portability of the CDs, as it comes in a sturdy carrying case.
I highly recommend this product to anyone who has either just started to explore the Bible, to that of the "seasoned Christian" who knows the Bible thoroughly.
