While we're aware that some may consider the Archaeological resources available in the Bible the major attraction of the Bible, we feel that the background information on each Book of the Bible along with the other sources of information relevant to both God's Word and Christian growth are of equal value. On top of all of this, the choice of the ever-reliable 1984 NIV version is icing on the cake. Thank you christianbook.com for making this Study Bible available at a very affordable price.

KevinMacungie, PAAge: 25-34Gender: male5 Stars Out Of 5One of the Best Study Bibles of All-TimeJune 10, 2014KevinMacungie, PAAge: 25-34Gender: maleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This is one of the greatest Study Bibles of all-time for a couple of reasons:
(1) The notes do not give you interpretation, but background so that you can effectively study the Scriptures yourself
(2) The visual aids really bring things into perspective as you read about the artifacts
No Christian should be without the Study Bible as it contains information that would take several different textbooks to attain. Fantastic achievement.
JairLiss13Long Beach, CAAge: 25-34Gender: male5 Stars Out Of 5Great Bible for a history buff.March 10, 2014JairLiss13Long Beach, CAAge: 25-34Gender: maleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This review is for the Renaissance Fine Leather edition of the Archaeological Study Bible.
Cover: The cover looks exactly as pictured, and is probably the nicest bible cover I have ever seen or felt. I have several premium leather bibles, and this is by far my favorite. It is very soft, flexible, and high quality. It also has a rustic leather look that goes well with the content of this study Bible.
Content: The paper is very high quality, and all the pages are full color with a rustic effect on all the page edges. There are thousands of notes, and hundreds of articles that tell you pretty much everything you want to know about the history and culture of the people and places in the Bible.
Overall, this Bible is excellent, and I could not recommend it more highly for someone interested in history and the Bible. Compared to other fine leather study Bibles, the price cannot be beat.

It is an extremely valuable tool to help anyone of any age reach a deeper and clearer understanding of what holy scripture is trying to teach us as followers of Christ. The fine leather binding is like no other bible I have ever owned and it will be a nice treasure to pass along to someone else. I purchased a second one for a gift as well as I think it is a wonderful value.
vzun2teachRockville, MD5 Stars Out Of 5Really enjoying this!December 22, 2013vzun2teachRockville, MDQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5As other reviewers have said, this is hefty--but fits the same Bible cover that my previous Bible inhabited (hardcover NIV study Bible). I don't find schlepping it a burden. I love having the extra information available during sermons and Bible studies, so it's a go-with Bible for me.
When I needed to get a new Bible, I gave it a lot of thought. I've had my NIV Study Bible for 40 years now, and am very familiar with the notes and extra information provided therein.
As I perused the choices available, the Archaeological notes wowed me! And now, several months after my purchase, I can enthusiastically say that I really enjoy the notes. They add to my knowledge, they provide context to Scripture, and I'm really glad I branched out.
About the leather binding: you might be like me, thinking, How do I justify the added expense? For me, this is what informed my decision: I LOVE God's word; I tithe; I support missionaries; I budget my money. So, yes, although it was pricey, I'm glad I got the leather. It's beautiful, the Bible opens and stays opened to the page you're on, and there are 2 ribbons to mark pages.
Oh--and each page is printed on lovely paper that has an "old" look, like an old parchment paper. It's great.
