What should have been an ordinary morning is about to spiral into a day of unrelenting terror.
As a reporter for his high school newspaper, Tom is always on the lookout for an offbeat story. But from the moment he woke up this morning, his own life has been more bizarre than any headline could ever tell.
The streets of his town are suddenly empty and silent. A strange fog has drifted in from the sea and hangs over everything. And something is moving in that fog. Something evil. Something hungry. Closing in on Tom.
Toms terrified girlfriend Marie says the answers lie at the Santa Maria Monastery, a haunted ruin standing amidst a forest blackened by wildfire. But can he trust her? A voice that seems to be coming from beyond the grave is warning him that nothing is what it seems.
Only one thing is certain: with his world collapsing around him, Tom has only a few hours to recover the life he knewbefore he, too, is lost forever in this nightmare city.

Once again, Klavan not only gives us a character we can wholeheartedly root for, but takes us into a fascinating, thought provoking, situation.
Great reading for middle school through adult.
ciciAge: 25-34Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5IntenseNovember 13, 2013ciciAge: 25-34Gender: femaleNightmare City by Andrew Klavan is intense. I am not a fan of mind blowing novels because I tend to get confused with all the drama but I actually loved this novel. I scare so easily while reading novels that I generally stay away from the twisty, creepy novel that if spent reading for long hours and I am oblivious to my surroundings I scare at the slightest sound. Now if this is the kind of reading that is right up your alley then by all means read on. However, if you are the scaredy cat kind of reader like me than shy away from this one but if you want to live the twists and turns of an apocalyptic city than read. Like anyone out there waking up to a completely dark city, no sound, no people you would freak out and try to figure out what happened. This about Tom and what he goes through in this unbelievable world he is now a part of.
