This book helped us so much through the tough times. When we weren't getting along, instead of arguing, we would open up this book and just start reading. God always chose the right page. It was very humbling. It taught us a lot about marriage and love- the Love that the Bible explains. It was very Biblical and not too heavy. We could just feel God's presence and get down to the core of things when we read this. I let someone borrow it, and I haven't gotten it back, so I ordered the emails. They aren't the same. I came online to buy another copy and decided to add a review. This book is irreplaceable to me. It gets deep into Scripture, and explains so much about real love and real Christian relationships. Love it!
My husband and I found this book to be quite intense for a before bedtime read. As someone else mentioned, reading this book around dinner time would be much better so you have time and energy to discuss what you are reading. We also found this book to be quite sad and depressing. Loving stories, sure, but always so sad. Not quite how we would recommend spending your first year of marriage before bedtime. This could be a good devotional for a a couple that's been married for 10/20 years but we wouldn't recommend within the first 5 at least.
Ring true no matter where you are in your marriage
June 9, 2014
I must say that this is one of my favorite devotionals I have ever done. My wife and I are doing this now for the second time in our marriage: once when we first got married and, now, eight years later. AND it still rings true and is very challenging to my faith. I would suggest two things when reading it: 1) Don't do it LATE at night right before bed because, as the husband, it is hard to stay awake sometimes. So, men, read it with your wife standing or sitting upright. 2) Use the short prayer at the end of each as a guide or starter prayer. It will really open up your hearts together. Overall, this is an amazing devotional that hits almost every facet of marriage in a real, biblical, and practical way.
