Night is Elie Wiesel's masterpiece---a candid, horrific, and deeply poignant autobiographical account of his survival as a youth in the Nazi death camps. Offering much more than a litany of the daily terrors, everyday perversions, and rampant sadism at Auschwitz and Buchenwald, Night also eloquently addresses many of the philosophical as well as personal questions implicit in any serious consideration of what the Holocaust was, what it meant, and what its legacy is and will be.
This new translation by Marion Wiesel, Elie's wife and frequent translator, presents this seminal memoir in the language and spirit truest to the author's original intent. And in a substantive new preface, Elie reflects on the enduring importance of Night and his lifelong, passionate dedication to ensuring that the world never forgets man's capacity for inhumanity to man.

"Required reading for all of humanity." —Oprah
“Wiesel has taken his own anguish and imaginatively metamorphosed it into art.” —Curt Leviant, Saturday Review
"To the best of my knowledge no one has left behind him so moving a record."—Alfred Kazin
"What makes this book so chilling is not the pretense of what happened but a very real description of every thought, fear and the apathetic attitude demonstrated as a response . . . Night, Wiesel's autobiographical masterpiece, is a heartbreaking memoir. Wiesel has taken his painful memories and channeled them into an amazing document which chronicles his most intense emotions every step along the way."—Jose Del Real, Anchorage Daily News
"As a human document, Night is almost unbearably painful, and certainly beyond criticism."—A. Alvarez, Commentary
Beryl Pearson5 Stars Out Of 5Painful but necessary to read for this generation.February 16, 2012Beryl PearsonQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5An eye-opener even though I lived at the time this was first documented by our troops at Buchenwald. Written from a survivors perspective with details that no one else could have known. Elie Wiesel won the Nobel Peace Prize for this book. His acceptance speech for the prize is included at the end of the book. That alone would make this book worth reading.
Angela Grogan5 Stars Out Of 5March 29, 2010Angela GroganI am a huge fan of Autobiographical books, buit I do have to say that this one very short book is my all time favorite book. It just goes to show you that you don't have to write a 1,000 page book to get to the heart. I have recommended this book to several of my friends, and even let my 18 year old son read my copy of the book, and all greatly love it.

I'm in the process of reading the entire trilogy and just finished Night. It broke my heart. CBD should make sure this book is always in stock, and every Christian should read it because Judiasm is the foundation upon which Christianity sprang, and for that alone we owe them our respect. May we never forget that Jesus was a Jew.
Sajida Ismail5 Stars Out Of 5August 13, 2006Sajida IsmailExcellently narrated. Short and complete. A young man surviving such insane cruelties...in 20th century!!! and reconciling with his life. I suffered a lot in my life including deaths of loved ones, including guilt feelings of not being prepared to be able to help the whole world!!! (or a soldier in the hands of a brutal enemy) from atrocities. This book gives me a lesson about different aspects of life, human's unreasonably cruel dark side, also kind psychology and varied situations that one has to deal with. On the other hand it may stop someone from becoming a maniacal torturer. This book is a lesson for humans and should be a part of High School Curriculum everywhere in the world. A person should learn early on what is nobility and what is not.
Kristen Jones5 Stars Out Of 5July 21, 2006Kristen JonesThis is truly an amazing memoir that brought me back to 1944 and the concentration camps. I've never read a book like this one where I could not put it down . Elie Weisel survived those horrible times for a reason and I believe that he was meant to tell the world the truth about what happened to him, his family, and so many millions of innocent people. I would highly recommend this book, NIGHT, to anyone!
