I have always wondered what exactly happened to Elvis Presley. I enjoyed some of his music and tried to think the best of him. His faith was something I was interested in hearing about which had been briefly mentioned over the years and hoped that someone who was close to him would know more than the tabloids and news stories I had heard and read.The first part of the book describes many celebrity scenes which dissolved any false hope that I had about Elvis faith or lifestyle. The description the doctor gave caused me to think that Elvis was a very sad, troubled man. It was as though he had never grown up and was plagued with addictive behavior regarding not only medications but also people. The more I read the more disheartened I became thinking of this very talented man who never really seemed to be fulfilled or happy. It reminded me of the Bible verse, What does it profit a man if he gains the whole world but loses his soul? There was really nothing redemptive about it.The last part of the book it seemed to me was Dr. Nick trying to exonerate himself from guilt and clear his own name. I wondered as a read it why, after so many years have passed, would this man care what people thought any longer. (Although I realize that the impact was life-altering for both him and his family.) I never got the feeling while reading the accounts of Elvis that Dr. Nick was at fault. Elvis chose his own path.The writing style in this book I found difficult to manage. It was very detailed and didnt seem to flow, sort of like reading a text book. All in all I would give this book one star. If you are an avid Elvis fan and find detailed descriptions of interest, this book is for you. For me, I will put Elvis to rest knowing that all the questions surrounding his death will never be answered. February 6, 2010

Being that I am only 25 years old, I completely missed the Elvis era and didn't, in fact, know much about his life or death. Before I picked up this book, I actually didn't even know how he supposedly died. I really enjoyed reading this book, it was full of information and very gripping. I found myself getting caught up in the story of Elvis' last few years and how his personal physician viewed those years and his treatment for Elvis. I think anyone who was a fan of Elvis or is intrigued by his life would love this book. It's a great insider story since it's written by Elvis' personal doctor. January 13, 2010

My 8 year old son is an avid Elvis fan. Where he developed his admiration for Elvis I am not sure, but he saved his money and bought his first CD collection of his music when he was only 5 years old. He was 7 when he realized the circumstances surrounding his death. We recently took him to Graceland on a trip to Memphis. When this book by Elvis' personal physician came up for review, I decided I wanted to read it out of curiosity. Although many years have passed since Elvis' death, it is very clear from Dr. Nichopoulos' writings that the events are as real as yesterday. Elvis was more than his patient. He was a very dear friend. He admits from the very beginning that his recollections may be somewhat tainted because of his love and admiration of his friend.I casually picked up this book to just read the first couple of pages and found myself still reading three chapters later. (Sorry I was late, honey!) I realized that many of my ideas surrounding Elvis' death were fueled by media hype and tabloid "bytes" instead of reality. I was surprised to enjoy reading this book. If you are an Elvis fan, this is a must. However, whether you are an official Elvis fan or not, this was quite a great read. January 12, 2010
