I have actually been a fan of Melissa Greene's voice ever since the first time I heard her debut song with Avalon, "Everything to Me." This new solo CD, Next Step, is a little bit different from what she does with the group, allowing her to show much more stylistic versitility. It's also very different from her independent project, Then and There, which was mostly piano-driven ballads. This CD has more upbeat songs, and the personal trials Melissa recently faced are reflected in a lot of the lyrics here; with songs about choosing to trust the all-knowing God in tracks like the emotional ballad "To Trust You," and moving forward with Him in songs like "Next Step" and "Too Far," upbeat anthems in their own right, with "Next Step" having a Gospel/R&B flare, and "Too Far" with a pop/rock aggressive declaration that God has brought you "too far to turn back now!" Melissa co-wrote on all three songs mentioned. Songs like her powerful cover of Kari Jobe's "Revelation Song" and the beautiful, simple acoustic worship track "At Your Feet" are wonderful pictures to me of what it really means to trust God and sing His praises, even through the pain that will inevitably come to all of us in this life. "Army," one of my personal favorites, is a very powerful song about God's mighty army fighting for us. My favorite line here is "I feel salvation coming!" What a statement of God-confidence!! All in all, I personally think this is an excellent CD; I've been listening to it ever since I got it earlier this month.

I love the variety of music that Melissa Greene offers on this CD. It shows why she is such an important part of the group Avalon. She uses rock, pop, worship and maybe a touch of country if you listen hard enough. All in all it is a great CD for your collection
