Easy to read
July 4, 2011
I purchased this book for a class I was taking online. This book is easy to read and is written for the average person not with the intent of a theologian. It gives the overall history of Rome and their emperors, their culture and the origin of the Dead Sea Scrolls and the books that are not "canonized". Then each chapter goes into depth of each of the books of the New Testament.
This book was for my class. At first I really dreaded the possibility of reading this, but have found it interesting and a look into the lives of the disciples, the time period, what was happening, the culture and the government. I have found that it isn't a bad read if you put your mind to learning what it has in store.
I'm a college student and this is one of my textbooks for my New Testament Survey course. This book gives an excellent survey, historical, political, and a content survey of each book of the New Testament, and gives essential info about the book (date, emphasis, etc.) I would suggest this to anyone that wants to get a survey of the New Testament, and if you do it (whether your using this book or another) you won't regret it. Seeing the big picture is important.
