This set is ideal for pastors and serious Bible students of the Reformed tradition. It is the only complete commentary on the New Testament written solely from a Reformed perspective. The award-winning twelve-volume hardcover set features verse-by-verse exegesis and applications, critical notes on the Greek text, chapter summaries, and extensive bibliographies and indexes of authors, Scripture, and other ancient writings enhance the usefulness of each volume.
Begun by William Hendriksen, Baker's New Testament Commentary has earned the acclaim and respect of Reformed and evangelical scholars and pastors. Since Hendriksen's death in 1982, the series has been continued by Simon J. Kistemaker. Four of the volumes compiled by Kistemaker earned the Gold Medallian Award (Hebrews, James and 1-3 John, Acts, and 1 Corinthians). The series was completed in 2001 with the publication of Revelation. Now, for the first time, the entire twelve-volume set may be purchased.
William Hendriksen (Th.D., Princeton Theological Seminary) was professor of New Testament literature at Calvin Theological Seminary.
Simon J. Kistemaker (Ph.D., Free University, Amsterdam) is professor emeritus of New Testament at Reformed Theological Seminary in Orlando, Florida.

A must have for Reformed pastors. The work that Hendriksen and Kistemaker did was extensive. The price can't be beat.

After 15 minutes of reading The New Testament Commentary by Hendrriksen/Kistemaker for the first time, I went in to a deep thought for a minute or so and came out of it with a profound philosophical statement:
"WOW!THIS IS LIKE FILLET-MIGNON OF SPIRITUAL FOOD"!
In his high-priestly prayer (John 17:3) Jesus prays: "Now this is eternal life; that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent."
Knowing God is life eternal and I have no doubt in my mind that this Commentary will, by the grace of God, draw you near to HIM, the true, living and only one God, Lord Jesus Christ.
Christian faith is based upon God's own self revelations and not upon conflicting and untrustworthy opinions of human beings. Bible study must not be like a Tupperware party where every one brings from home his or her own dish made out of "I think" or "in my opinion" theology. Therefore this Commentary is based upon Bible, the word of God and not upon the opinions of its authors. It is loaded with exposition of basic but deep biblical doctrines supported with biblical cross-references.
Don't be surprised if your pastor or bible study teacher ask you question like: "HOW DO YOU KNOW SO MUCH DEEP TEACHINGS OF BIBLE?"
After reading all the excellent customer reviews from those who were blessed with this Commentary, I feel like suggesting Christianbook.com to include in each shipping order of this Commentary a bumper-sticker that reads
" I WOULD RATHER BE READING HENDRIKSEN/KISTEMAKER NEW TESTAMENT COMMENTARY-- 1800-CHRISTIAN"

As a student of Scripture, I will recommend the Hendriksen/Kistemaker New Testament Commentary to anyone who is being led to seek a deeper understanding of Scripture. A valuable resource for serious Bible studies, Sunday school classes and those being called into ministry. Thank you Christianbook for making this valuable resource available at a very affordable price.

Beginning in Sept.09 - May 2010, members of BSF(Bible Study Fellowship) will be studying the book of John. The John commentary was ordered for use after the study. I have skimmed the volumes and they far exceed my expectations! Seven nursing homes where I conduct Bible Study, my senior Sunday School Class, and the women's adult Sunday School Class will also benefit. Not only am I blessed with this wonderful information, I am blessed at a price that I expected to pay per volume shipped. Building a christian library has not been nearly as expensive as I expected because of Christian Book Distributors. Thank God for good products, quick service, low prices, and an opportunity to serve the community!

I highly recommend this commentary because it gives great insight into understanding the Bible by using the whole Bible to interprete scripture. It helps to give practical application of scripture by helping you to understand Gods word and its powerful effect on your lives when we are willing to be lead by it.
