The New International Encyclopedia of Bible Words is one of those rare resources that the pastor and serious Bible student will turn to again and again. Dr. Richards has proved to be a competent expositor of God's Word (as is seen in his commentaries and popular Bible study books) and he is obviously gifted in making sense out of some of the most difficult Hebrew and Greek words one finds in the Bible.
This book is much more than a mere dictionary. It is a true education in the background and theology of Bible words. I have often said that if I could own just five Bible study tools, Richard's New International Encyclopedia of Bible Words would certainly be among them. I can't say enough good things about this book. I love the layout and the approach Richards takes in this book and I think you will too. It has often enlightened and intrigued me and sent me to the Bible with greater inspiration and with a greater sense of confidence in what God's Word actually means.
If you are wondering whether or not to buy this book, stop wondering and buy it! It will only take one or two articles to convince you that you have made an absolutely outstanding purchase.
This book is a winner, no question about it! It really is one of those indispensable resources. Happy reading.
I have an extensive theological library with several word-study type books in it. Yet among them there is not one that I prize more highly than Richard's New International Encyclopedia of Bible words (actually, I have the older version). This book is an excellent tool for gaining exegetical insight into a biblical author's main topic. It is a very importatnt book for any serious Bible student.
Larry Richards is usually reliable, but this book is REALLY disappointing! I was studying II Chronicles 15 and 16 when it arrived, so I looked up Asherah pole ((15:16) and bier (16:14) BUT THEY ARE NOT INCLUDED! I know what "feet" are and what "hope" is, but where is the SCHOLARSHIP? I am returniing this volume...
